     Great blown out catchy punk with a killer guitar sound. The raw, saturated recording gives it a pretty claustrophobic feel but they have a real sense of melody, highlighted by the female/male dual vocals.

   • Had a great time in Newport last night with EGS. Thanks to Welly for the gig. I scored a few copies of the Bullsheep Detector LP/DVD on red vinyl - this is a comp of early Welsh Punk bands, done by Antisociety records. I have also re-stocked the Artcore Terminal Decal LP/Zine.
     
     At some point during the EGS set a glass of water fell into the LP box. Most of the records survived unscathed but a few unfortunately suffered slight water damage to the covers. Nothing too bad but they got a bit damp and crinkly at the bottom. So I'm reducing the prices on these records to reflect this. Vinyl is all fine.

     DEAD IN THE WOODS – The Sign of the Son of Man LP.
     
     The Sign of the Son of Man is the final output of Dead In The Woods.
     
     Formed in 2008 with personnel from Army of Flying Robots, The Blueprint and Moloch among others, Dead In The Woods ’music has evolved from the down tempo, crust influenced metallic hardcore of their debut split LP with Dietpills to a looser, space rock influenced take on heavy music.
     
     The Sign of the Son of Man is a document of Dead In The Woods as the band was in its final moments: five songs and three improvised jams creating thirty seven minutes of heavy, theremin-infused hardcore, metal and psychedelic rock.
     
     These songs were written during some very chaotic times (both good and bad) in our lives and represent five friends attempting to make sense of that chaos with music and words.
     As it became clear that the band was going to be geographically scattered, we managed to converge to Stuck On A Name studios one last time and record all the material we had, five songs recorded in a live setting, capturing a looser, more energetic side of the band’s sound and adding to this a recording of a series of improvised jams which had become an inherent part of the band’s live set.

      A difficult record to describe, but it is absolutely killer! Space crust? At the core it is vaguely crusty hardcore, that reminds me of bands like LOOK BACK AND LAUGH (Including scathing female vocals) but with loads of crazy noise elements and psychedelic guitar leads. Loads going on here. Maybe not for everyone but if you 'get it' you will love it (like me). Lovely clear blue vinyl.
      
      HUATA - ATAVIST OF MANN CD £9
      Amazing occult doom/sludge from france. Reminds me a lot of ELECTRIC WIARD with some upbeat sections reminicent of CHURCH OF MISERY/early SLEEP. But the whole things has a lot of atmosphere, enhanced by brilliant use of organ and samples. Comes in a really nice digipack cover. Recommended.

      Ex. Taint frontman Jimbob Isaac returns with his new unit Hark. Their debut seven inch 'Mythopoeia' is released on July 30th, through the Destructure/SuperFi labels.
      The Welsh progressive-power-sludge trio carry Taint's torch forward, passed on from their legacy that began in 1994. With fresh chops and almighty riff power, Hark continue to fuse punk attack with Sabbathian dirge, and decorate post-whatever angularities with classic rock flourish. 'Mythopoeia' is strictly limited to 300 copies. Each sleeve is lovingly hand screened, and numbered by Jimbob, who is also the creator of the suitably crushing artwork.
      
      WHIWHITEHORSE/HOT GRAVES - Split 7" £4
      Doomed out hardcore from Australia meets acid-fried USA punk. Comes in a 2 colour screen-printed cover.

SUPPRESSION open the flip side with a mental power electronics section leading to a grinding hardcore tune, heavy on the freak sauce. Sludge, noise and brutal hardcore- this split is a time-travel trip back to the mid-90's mutant underground, as presented by two of it's most prominent units.

      Blacked doomed out murk that reminds me of Kollapse ers Breach mixed with black metal. 'Feedback; lurching doom riffs; Panzerfaust played at half-speed; unsettling dark passages of nothing, punctuated with blasts of black metal panic, almost there as if to give you a jolt from the preceding grinding nausea. It's a tough listen!'
      
      ILEGAL - EL AIRE LIBRE DE LOS DIENTES DEL MONSTRUO TIRANO Y CANIBAL £8 (La Vida Es Un Mus)
      After a demo and three seven inches ILEGAL finally unleash their debut full length. 12 songs clocking in at just about 30 minutes. Heavily influenced by early Italian and Spanish hardcore bands like WRETCHED or ANTI-DOGMATIKSS their sound brings to mind a time in hardcore where you could still understand what the band was singing about while sounding ferocious. Recorded analog in Quebec Canada with vocals added digitally later in Germany. Mastered by Joel Hatsat in Florida and housed in a beautiful wraparound sleeve designed by Eugene from CRAZY SPIRIT.
      
      NAILBITER - THE BAIT £8 (La Vida Es Un Mus)
      Lyrically and musically Nailbiter are often compared to PAINTBOX, DEATH SIDE and late era ANTI-CIMEX. They paint bleak visions of day to day existence in this miserable world.       Debut 7" from Syracuse, NY's hottest HC band. Hunted Down takes cues from classic USHC bands but manages to add in influences from classic Japanese hardcore along the lines of Kuro or G-Zet. The vocals almost sound identical to Morikawa from Kuro, with the same violent and nihilistic delivery but now it is being spewed forth from a degenerate of the American working class.

      Debut 7" EP from Aussie raw hardcore punk act, LAST CHAOS. 4 songs of more Finnish/Japanese HC punk worship with some heavy CROW influence in there as well.Featuring members of Teargas.

      Debut EP from this raw D-beat/crust band from Columbus, Ohio. Features members of BLACK DOVE and VILE GASH. Heavy blown out recording with killer riffs.
      
      YADOKAI - s/t
      Yadokai is back armed with a new drummer and an even bigger sound. Taking cues from classic Japanese and Italian HC but infusing it with the buzzsaw attack of Discharge they have truly become a hardcore monster. Piercing guitars, thunderous drums, and the screams and distorted yells of a singer in opposition to all forms of tyranny and hypocrisy. Their best and most consistent material to date, this it the standard to which bands of this ilk should be measured.
