Who is good for car insurance?

    • mikemike
    • The comparison websites have thrown up some nice deals, the main people have thrown up laughably insane prices, anyone recommend a good one?

My best price so far is 396 with someone called Footman James?
    • JackJack
    • I'd just go for the cheapest, long as you have windscreen cover
    • PodgePodge
    • haha, my cheapest is £775
    • mikemike
    • Which car though? This is an 06 Corsa.
    • PodgePodge
    • that james fella just quoted me £1220.55

i'm working on a 1.4 Fiat, but i've only had my licence a month and i've had my bike stolen which i claimed for so it all adds up.

my cheapest is ecar but gonna hit up all the other comparative sites just in case

    • I've been with Direct Line for years and they're good. Not sure if the cheapest though.
    • mambamamba
    • Was with Endsleigh for years from when I was a student because they were cheapest at the time. Switched to esure a couple of years as they were cheaper. Must be because I'm getting old and sensible.

As Jack said, just go with the cheapest found on comparison sites, but try to keep the excess to a minimum as it can be pretty hefty for new drivers.

    • I've been with e-car for my first year, probably gonna go for Endsleigh when I renew at the end of the month. I'd say it's best to look at comparison sites, then just go direct. Can always try quoting the comparison site price if they quote you more directly ;)

Think last year was about £630, down to £425ish this year

Get yourself on the "Flexi-bell" 10 month accumulator to speed up your no claims bonus generation.
(you pay for 10 months cover but then at the end they give you the full years no claims bonus)

I'd have said go 3rd party and pay the extra 20 quid for the "drive any vehicle" but with it being a "newer" car fully comp might be the way forward, and you get the drive any car anyway (when you hit 25 at the end of the month anyway)

Elephant.co.uk Do a similar deal (cos they are actually the same company) but there are some slight variations in lthe windowscreen cover etc so both are worth a look.

    • Ta mate!
    • PodgePodge
    • I've looked at those, as per Laddy's suggestions previously but they still come out a couple of hundred quid more than ecar. gonna do some more searching today

    • well, after much searching its ended up costing me bloody £857 for insurance but it should be warmer and safer than the motorbike so I suppose its all worth while.

    • Got mine saved and will probably buy it next Monday, but 562 fully comp with Direct Line, my car is quite new though so thats why. Cannot wait for the freedom to be honest, been on more shitty trains most people do in a lifetime. I had to sit in the footwell of the entrance a few weeks ago for 2 1/2 hours and had to get up every time there was a stop to let people on and off, shite.

    • I'm on Carey's insurance for now, until I get my own ride. It's costing £18 a month.

I still like trains because you just sit there and read or whatever, its a totally passive transportation system.

    • Aye but they take aaaaages to get where they are going, too long for my liking, can take me about half the day to get to Sleaford from here, or an hour and a half in a car.

    • This weekend has made me hate driving more than ever.

    • I'm with Privilege, definately not the cheapest, it was about 3 years ago mind, but no good for you newbies anyway as you have to have 4 years no claims or sumat. I'm not posh btw.

That company iggy pop advertises for - swiftcover, are the cheapest according to one of my mates, his group 17 Honda Civic insurance is cheaper than my group 6 Punto with privilege. I also found swiftcover was the cheapest for another mate (£150 cheaper than his previous insurer)
