    • I'm off to Liverpool this weekend.

I've never been before, anyone got any suggestions of what to do there?

      Leave.

    • Nah, Liverpool's ace.

Go to the Tate for sure. I'd say make sure you go to the docks but if you go to the Tate then you'll be at the docks.

Also, get chatted up by a very old, very drunken Irish man in a pub where everyone looks like they want to kill you.

    • cool, i'll add them to my list

    • Start a gang and get involved in some gang warfare about drugs and respect
    • PodgePodge
    • i think that may require a little longer than a weekend

    • Liverpool is an ace city and far safer and more welcoming than other cities especially Nottingham and Manchester.
The cliches about scousers all being thieves are boring and wrong.
      There's loads to look at.
The post blitz architecture reminds me of bits of New York and Philly and there are still loads of real pubs in the city centre.
Try and take a trip down Lark Lane maybe for breakfast at one of the many nice cafes.
At the end of Lark Lane you can have a stroll round Sefton Park.
The Albert Docks , as Jen mentioned , are very interesting but avoid the Beatles museum as it's overpriced and crap, there's plenty of other free stuff to look at there.
Jamaica Street is also very interesting with a nice , non pretentious art space and cafe / bar and you can see the strange concrete creation handmade by local skaters on the corner of Newbird St.
Bold St. and Hardman st. are worth a look for shopping.
Kimos on Mount Pleasant street is a cafe/restaurant that's almost too awesome for words. Amazing all day breakfasts plus delicious middle east food at well cheap prices. Very relaxed atmosphere and suitable for meat and non meat eaters alike. Wonderful!
The Egg cafe is worth finding if you are vege / vegan.
I'd live in Liverpool if it was as cheap as Sheffield to get a place within walking distance of the centre which it properly ISN'T.

    • The best thing about Liverpool is either the purple wheelie bins, or the statue of the horse with it's cock at eye level and angry.
You can tell I've never had a proper chance to look round.

      All these museums are FREE.
The maritime and slavery museums are in the same building as far as I remember.
You could also get the Mersey Ferry which is probably about 3 or 4 quid or maybe more nowadays.
You could see how many superlambananas you can spot

      www.superlambbanana.com/home.php?/WHAT?

Some of these temporary art installations have even been spotted as far away as North Wales.

    • Maritime Museum and the Tate get votes from me. I also told your good lady you should get the ferry, even though massively cliched, because boats are nice.

    • Or better yet one of those land to water floating busses you get down the waterfront.

Best thing i saw in liverpool was a huge wooden wizard's head in sefton park

    • 1. Ferry. Across the Mersey.

      2. Take a coat.

      3. Don't wear a shell suit and afro wig and go around calling people cunts. Or go "now den now den."

    • I love Liverpool.

As well as what Kev and others have said, I'd recommend the two Cathedrals. I'm not massively into going to churchs and the like, but the CofE one is absolutely massive and gothic (probably archetecturally incorrect, but I know what I mean) and the Catholic one is a big crazy concrete teepee.
