Question for people with flats

    • JackJack
    • I'm looking to rent a 1 bedroom flat, just wondering what the bills typically come to per month. I'm not really in at all during the day so I can turn all electrical bits off. So interested in cost of electric, water, council tax etc bills at the end of a month.
      Any help appreciated

    • Mine's 2 bedrooms strictly speaking, but the second one hardly counts.

      The essentials...

Council tax - £138pm (but you can knock 25% off that if you're living on your own)
      Water - £11pm
Electric - £55pm incl. heating but they keep changing that. I'm way overpaying at the moment

      Plus...

      TV licence - £12pm
      BT line - £10pm
Internet - depends. I pay £19 for a bad ass connection but can get it cheaper

    • cool cheers mamba, i think i might have to get contents insurance too. Is that water on a meter or just a water rate
    • mambamamba
    • Oh yes...

      Contents insurance - £7pm
Maintenance charge - £70pm (incl. buildings insurance)
      Ground rent - £50 every 6 months

I was wondering where all I money has been going!
    • JackJack
    • ouch! I'm thinking I might get in a cheap house share for 6 months clear some debts then take another look. Some of the house shares here are are like £400 all in a month, god knows who I'll live with though, probably bankers and estate agents, oh well think of the money!

    • dunno dude...rent for 1 bed flat in london is usually about £700 pm

stick another £80 - 100 for council tax unless you live in wandsworth, then it's £30.

contents insurance depends on your flat and if it's double glazed, yale locked, secure, etc.

utilities usually come to about £80 a month but probably less if you don't live with a wooooo-maaaaann who manges electricity powering her womanly things.

i think you'd fit in well with bankers and solicitors, don't be so fucking cynical, they're people too.:P

    • im looking at moving hemel direction for a bit, thats where my 400 came from.

    • You can look at getting a duel tariff electricity thing. You can get one that's higher during the day thern goes right down about 7pm to 7am. If you're not in all day you won't be using anything at the higher tariff so it may save some money that way

    • going for the house share idea for a bit i think. One place Im looking at is £360 a month with all the bills included. That saves me a lot of money, getting on for a 200-300 saving if I include the saving on fuel as I wont be driving to work every day.

    • 360 all in is good for round here. I'm in a four bed in St Albans and it's about 400 all in.
    • JackJack
    • St Albans is worth that extra cash though, bit more exciting than Hemel, at least its not far to get to for a pint

Jesus dude...is it an apartment in Buckingham Palace. I know London's ludicrously expensive but that's taking the piss a bit. At least for my money I get a nice 200 year old cottage, with a garden in a nice quiet little town. Things aren't so bad after all!!!
