Favourite horror films

    • Halloween approaches, what films do people recommend as far as decent horror goes?

      A few of my favourites:-

Dawn of the Dead (either version)
      The Descent
      Audition
      The Thing

And I remain disappointed by Halloween, Evil Dead and 28 Days Later and it's sequel.
    • Tim HolehouseTim Holehouse
    • Easer head
      witch finder general
      the wicker man
      To the devil a daughter
Most of the hammer horror stuff I like.
    • CareyCarey
    • the thing
      ring
      the evil dead

i'm sure there must be more...

oh, the bit in the others where the little girl turns into an old woman is scary.

    • Witchfinder General is ok, not really that good though.

      I like-

      The Omen
      The Shining
      Blair Witch 1

Not much else as they are mainly awful.

    • Oh The Thing is ace, as much fun and scary as a game too.
    • CareyCarey
    • oh, i have a misguided fondness for low budget canadian teen werewolf film, "ginger snaps"...

    • I can't think of one that stands out. Horror films bore me.
    • Big SiBig Si
    • Dog Soldiers. Beyond a shadow of a doubt.
    • DonnyDonny
    • Dawn of the Dead (original - though the remake isn't bad)
      Braindead
      American Werewolf in London

    • I'd have to say The Omen & The shining. oh and the original Dark Water.

I don't watch that many horror films, they don't bore me i'd just rather often watch other stuff.

As a kid i saw Poltergeist and i had to sleep with the stairs light on for years afterwards as it scared the living daylights out of me, there used to be a tree at the bottom of our garden and that didn't help me at night as i kept thinking it was going to come get me.

Excellent film. So much gore and that Vicar is hilarious.

"Stand back boy, this call's for divine intervention!"

"I kick arse for the lord!"

    • I like proper shivers

Ring - all 3 originals in fact - fuuucccckkkk
Halloween - doesnt need dark to be scary
The Fog (some bits are perfect shiver material)
      Psycho
      Cronos
      Prince Of Darkness

However I also rate Scream and American Werewolf in London - so clever

Let's not forget Shaun of the Dead - awesome comedy horror

    • Hang on, can't omit

      Hellraiser - totally nuts
Scanners - explosive (quite literally HAHAHA)
      The Hitcher - white knuckles
    • MORRELLMORRELL
    • Halloween.

Recently though I thought (REC) and the Orphanage were very good.

      Yeah. I laughed afterwards.

Agree with Carey on guiltily liking Ginger Snaps. Other than that it's all the Evil Dead films, Dawn of the Dead, From Dusk til Dawn, Planet Terror, and generally any horror that doesn't take itself too seriously.
    • DonnyDonny
    • Forgot about Dusk 'till Dawn. That's a great film. I really enjoyed planet terror too.
