   • I'm never wrong. Although, I will be looking into buying a Macbook next summer. But its purely for the battery life, I'll be putting windows on it. Mac software sucks. 4 hour battery life cannot be laughed at.

   • Mac OSX is so much better than anything windows, I'll let you off if your planning on Linux. I promise that once you actually spend a while using mac software you'll realise that it is in fact much more user friendly, more reliable and can do anything a windows computer can do without a problem. Honest, I work Macs every day (we have 12 G5s in out edit control room), we put them through hell of a lot and have ended up nearly killing several but I wouldnt trade them for windows based pcs ever, no way I would trust them to run smoothly enough.

    • Urgh! Mac snobs. While it was maybe true 13 odd years ago that Macs were better suited to graphics packages that was more to do with the inherant stability problems with Windows '95. Since windows '98 there's pretty much fuck all difference between a Mac and a PC. Other than having to use the 'Apple' key instead of 'Ctrl' for keyboard shortcuts. But Macs are more expensive and 'trendy' so they must be better right???

    • nah its a more stable platform to work on, I'm happy to not have my computer crashing every few hours. I use Final Cut pro which is made by apple and only works on apple computers and is much nicer to use than Adobe premier which i have also used on both platforms. For these reasons and many many more I love macs and will always love macs. It is also with good reason that a company like ours who supply video and graphics for events use macs and spend the money on them. No way we'd trust a windows pc to handle the jobs they are used for or we'd end up with some scary system failures mid show which would loose us a good reputation and lots of money. PC users always justify it by saying that Macs are more expensive but personally Im happy to pay more, I dont have to buy anti virus software for one, I'm a fan of nicely designed things and i think its a reasonable thing that i want my computer to look nice + be built in a solid fashion.

    • Well I have no experience with video editing software on either platform so can't possibly comment. But for pure vector and photo graphics work there's not a jot of difference. Both run Illustrator/Photoshop and whatever else that's commonly used in the graphics industry to the same standard. Working in the industry I do I've had to deal with my share, your share and everyone elses share of Mac snobs... for fifteen years. So if I come across as ranty and a bit mental then it's because it tends to grate after that amount of time. I see whatever computer and applications I use purely as a tool, and both the Mac and PC I use do my job identically. Except my Mac has just had a critical hard disc failure. If it was a PC I could have had a fella come out and fix it within a day or two. But because it's a Mac, it's gone on a trip from here, to Leicester, and now onto Nottingham because they're so precious and can only be seen to by other Mac snobs it's getting more annual holiday than I am and is currently being outperformed by a 4 year old laptop running XP.
      
      Ha ha ha, this really is much more ranty and mental than intended. Need sleep.
      
      No offence intended to my Mac loving brothers and sisters, just trying to shatter some falsehoods regarding the superduperawesomeness of the "mighty" Mac.

    • I like both to be honest, just the no-frills mac feels more productive and professional than a PC at the moment. I've happily used PCs my whole life, but I'm not a Mac hater.

      I think we are lucky to have several mac experts at work so luckily we avoid having to send them on holidays for repairs. We have boffin types who open them up and throw in a bunch of bits and within a day they are up and running again. I am a mac snob but i feel its justified lol

    • My God, ain't been on this thread for ages and it seems to have gone all aggressive?!?! I mainly use Quark, In Design and Photoshop and have just had more problems at work using Windows than I have at home using Apple. I don't know why this is, I just prefer the latter - nowt to do with fashion or being a snob - just personal preference, sorry
