    • Paragon.

I'll meet you all at the bus station at 6.20 tonight yo. I'm working til 5.30 so I'll go straight there. Woot.
    • mikemike
    • Cool, I've got all the details, PLEASE PRINT OUR BUS TICKETS PETE!

I'm bringing a sleeping bag for us as the Etap rooms are hilariously small, they have a double bed with a single bunk over the top of it, so one of us will have to sleeping bag it, two of us will have to share, haha! Bunking down with Pete or Fred then, woot!

    • Yeah, this was an amazing festival. Good venue, good bands.

It was awesome to meet Ninehertz people (Biledriver, Kunal and especially RUSTYSPOON).

Earth blew me away. Also loved Asva, Dalek, Black Sun, Einstellung, Fuck Buttons and Red Sparowes.

      Awesome times!!!

      Thanks Rustyspoon.

    • I am certainly going again if the lineup is as varied and well run as that again.

I think my kerrang review covers about half the stuff I saw, in summary-

ASVA were fucking incredible, best band of the weekend for me.

EARTH were great as ever, but made even better with the Asva members.

OXBOW were just amazing, really got into it, they played a fast song which just totally freaked me out.

FUCK BUTTONS weren't loud enough, then each song got louder, and louder, and louder

DALEK were intense, really heavy bass beats, really cool.

EFTERKLANG were even more cheesy than I thought but all the better for it, amazing stuff, duno if they already have but I saw a poster advertising them playing the Brudenell in Leeds, Leeds people should go.

EINSTELLUNG were great as well, one riff, play it til it becomes something else, really good and tempted to put them on here.

HARVEY MILK were good but might have been on a bit late, still fantastic except for people in front of me talking about clothes for the entire set.

RED SPAROWES were great, if a bit quiet after being deafened by ASVA.

BLACK SUN were loud and hard to watch but amazing.

JUSTICE YELDHAM was hilarious and great to watch, seemed like a nice chap too, I'd like to meet him.

DJ SCOTCH EGG was great but we had to leave as we were not off our nuts on pills so it was a bit annoying.

HEATSEEKERS was a bit of a wasted slot I reckon, seemed an unpracticed jam and the sound was rubbish.

ORTHODOX were great, but their cover of "Black Sabbath" was not.

GUAPO might as well call themselves King Crimson.

DOKKEBIQ were a truly unique band, Osaka's only dub/noise duo I'd imagine but amazing, plus, the first japanese person I've ever seen with dreds!

ROLO TOMASSI looked at home on a big festival stage as well, brilliant as ever.

Sheffield needs something similar, but first it needs a venue as amazing as the Custard Factory.

I get to see them again tonight, mint.

    • Harvey milk didn't do much for me, but i was knackered by that point, and was thinking about the drive home. Oxbow were the only band i saw that i had listened to previously, the only other time i saw them live was when they played acoustic, so great to see them live.

    • Just uploaded my photo's to my pc, i'll shove them on facebook or photobucket in the next couple of days.

    • Good to see you all at Supersonic, nice to have a bit of a natter with Carey, Mike and Pete.

Most of our Sunday evening was spent debating Top 5’s after the close of the festival, here’s mine (after much whiskey fuelled deliberation):

      Supersonic Top 5

      1. Harvey Milk were a truly exceptional live entity. The twin assault of Creston and Preston was something to behold, as they stormed through a set of high octane rock, crushing doom and anthemic ballads! Mile wide grins and child like glee amongst the true believers in the front rows paid testament to the Milk’s brilliance. Probably the tightest band of the festival.

      2. The live pairing of Merzbow and Keiji Haino was always sure to be something special but I wasn’t quite prepared for the sheer intensity of their performance. Cascading walls of white noise clashed with improv guitar histrionics, hurdy gurdy abuse and free form drumming. Who knew that Merzbow was such a capable drummer? I’ve found that much ‘noise’ music fails to deliver on its promise of sensory overload but the sheer abrasive emotional power of Haino and Merzbow left me utterly floored.

      3. Oxbow – My first experience with Oxbow as a fully fledged live band, having seen them as a duo last year in Birmingham supporting Isis. Eugene’s intimidating, sexually charged stage presence was enough to hold anyone’s attention, viewed no doubt with a certain perverse curiosity as people asked the question ‘what’s he going to do next’? The microphone spent a good deal of its time in Eugene’s pants between animalistic howls and sordid sexual propositions. Oxbow’s finely tuned set of cutting grooves, sexual perversion and understated melody was superb.

      4. Dalek – I’m not the biggest hiphop fan but Dalek never fail to blow me away. Both on record and in the live arena, the sheer density of their music puts many a metal band to shame. A truly crushing proposition, catering for both head and heart with passionately delivered, intelligent lyrics set gainst a truly devastating sonic backdrop of molten beats and processed noise.

      5. Gravetemple – What began as something akin to a paired down Sunn O))) performance quickly mutated into something else entirely. The addition of hyperspeed black/death metal drumming half way through their set elevated things to an otherworldly level. A blur of blast beats and unrelenting double kicks made for a truly propulsive drone experience, permeated by the eerie shamanic utterances of Atilla, presiding as figurehead over this ritual of bass worship.

I would have loved to have seen this but the last bus to Sheffield was far too early! Awesome weekend.

I could maybe expand on the above...

    • yeah, that'd be great, if you wouldn't mind Matt...

    • Will see what I can do. A friend of mine has some good photos actually.

    • Thank you to everyone who didn't punch me in the face, you're a charming bunch of folk.

For what it's worth, Red Sparowes were my favourite although Atilla is a stone-cold legend.

A friend of a friend of a friend recorded a lot of Saturday sets so shout if you're into that sort of thing.

      Thanks again.
