Frankly, if you want something huge and money's no object, you simply cannot do better than an Ampeg SVT Classic. The killer there is that you will need either two cabs or, for preference, a big ol' Ampeg 8x10".

Since you say you need a head, I assume you have a cab already - details?

The Ampeg 8x10 is awesome, but it's like having to move house every time you want to use the fucking thing. Still, it was an excellent wedding present...

Emily Witch is louder than all. She just uses a small head, dunno what it is, but she's louder and heavier than most other bands we play with.

    • Right, its a Trace Elliot AH 250, despite looking a bit tatty its recently been serviced by a guy in Nottingham

and for those that think buying an old valve head is a smart idea, this is what my tec had to remove and replace to get the thing working again after it shorted across the power switch and could have blown tom's arm off

Er, those are vales, the head is solid state?
    • Big SiBig Si
    • No, I think you'll find Tom's valve head is, in fact, a valve head.
Podge has posted about two different things in the same post, crazy bastard that he is.

very heartbreakingly true. had some delicious rumble and fuzz on it but it's cunted.

you wanna give my guy a shout, he'll be able to mod it so the out of date parts can be replaced with available stuff

ah cheers man. possibly...i'm thinking i may just take a deep breath and get something new. essentially, the guts of it was what made it sound so cool, but i could give him a shot and see what he coulld do for me. i fear geography may also be an issue.

It was for me, I failed it twice at A level!!!

    • Theres a good guy in cornwall in know too who loves modding old amps into new ones and clones. If Alex couldnt fix it though I fear it's not worth going there, he's a wizard.

drop him a line anyway, he's a bit mental but very thorough and he's often got amps going up and down the country, we managed to get ours in with some other guys (that he'd arranged) so it cost us nowt to get them there and back. also check out the site for the 1000 and 500 watt tube amps, beefy is the only way i would describe them.
    • bad admiralbad admiral
    • cool, thanks...i think his website's down at the mo though cos i can't get on there.

mr james brown reckons he's got a mate who does cheap second hand amps, so i may give that a go too.
    • JackJack
    • get that last thor that tim told me about, awesome
    • PodgePodge
    • site and link above work fine for me.

      i've heard of thor before
    • JackJack
    • Yeah site worked for me, i love those kind of people who keep things like valve amps working. Useful hands on people. I have a Thor, bought it off Tims mate, it's an amazing amp, think he has one more for sale still. Its a guitar amp though not a bass amp.
    • bad admiralbad admiral
    • well, i play guitar. how much can i expect to part with?
    • JackJack
    • mine was £200 then spent £50 getting it serviced. Bargain. Theres only several hundred in existence and its like 120watts, requires pedals though, so would need a good stomp box. Heavy as hell in weight and sound

Well I use the usa big muff with mine and it works a treat. Get the dudes number of Tim, if he has one left scoop it up, Alex can fix it up and service. Tis a beast of an amp and would make a fine sludge or doom amp for sure
