particularly like the one where you have to describe your band in terms your mum would understand

I recently tried to explain my band to a lady at work who is about my mum's age. Here's how it went down.

Her: Oh so you're in a band? What sort of music is it.
Me (trying to be broad as possible): Fast heavy metal
Her: Oh right, you mean like Alice Cooper?
Me (wishing I could say yes): Quite a bit heavier and faster than Alice Cooper
Her (getting confused): Oh right. Who would you say it's like then?
Me (trying not to be patronising): It would probably be easier if I showed you what I mean
Her (wide-eyed in terror as I play her a track): Ooooh! I bet he has a sore throat after shouting like that.

Don't even bother trying...I'm a real cunt these days.

Her: Oh so you're in a band? What sort of music is it.
      Me: yeaahhhhhh....*Walk off*

I need to introduce my 'rents to the radical musical stylings of Groan, I think they may like.

Or course they would. I can talk to them on the phone if you like?

Yeeah, do introductions for each track. Talk about the musical torment that inspired the lyrics etc.

      "yeah..well..this ones about Wizards n stuff..pretty crazy..yeah?"

    • My mum had to describe our band to a friend of hers a while ago and called it 'Heavy Metal and beyond'.
Not sure what it meant but I was very proud of her.

    • Thanks for the questions so far!

      Keep them coming.

And you don't have to think up all 9 - if you have one let us know.

    • good friends in shit bands... do you go to their gigs?

what other stuff outside rock music do you listen to?

has the digital music revolution been a good or bad thing?

who's had the best rock and roll death?
    • bad admiralbad admiral
    • if you had to do the sex with anybody in your band - who would it be?

    • Right, time for Plonker's 2 cents...

      1) We all have insprations as musicians. Who are you ripping off most and why?
      2) What brought you together as a band, where did you initially meet?
      3) What's the worst album you've ever bought? Elaborate/shit on it from a great height.
      4) There's a big culture of tribute bands in the UK. Do you think it's a good thing to remember classic bands in this way, or is it shameless money-making by uncreative musicians?
      5) What's your favourite sandwich?
      6) Your band are on a rapidly descending plane facing certain death, There's enough parachutes for all but one of you. Who says hello to Uncle Satan?
      7) The pub down the road offer you a blank cheque to put on a four band bill. Who goes on the poster for one dream night of music?
      8) What's the most rock n' roll thing you've ever seen?
      9) What, in all honesty, do you think of Limp Bizkit?

I want a t-shirt that says "Nobody knows I'm listening to Limp Bizkit" to wear when I'm walking around town doing errands and listening to my iPod.

      I'd buy that.

Someone should alert Steve Jobs - there should definitely be an app for this.

    • 1. Tesco records have just offered your band a HUGE advance for an EP, only problem is that the advance can only be claimed using an instore clubcard. Assuming you take the deal, which items are the priority?

      2. A local church mysteriously disappears overnight, do you take the blame thus achieving KVLT status and boosting album sales whilst facing the wrath of the worldwide christian community?

      3. You are offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to support STATUS QUO at Alnwick Castle in Northumberlands, shortly before your set QUO guitarist RICK PARFITT asks that you cut your set to 30 seconds so his 7 year old daughter can perform a karaoke medley of songs from TV series GLEE. Do you:
      A) Politely tell him that you're here to play a full set and risk being axed altogether
      B) Play for 30 seconds as normal then turn your amps up to FULL and overpower the karaoke system thus reducing young Parfitt to tears, unwittingly ruining her birthday.
      C) Concede to the guitarists' wishes and even mime along to the glee soundtrack, boosting the girls confidence.

      4. If one of each of the worlds land creatures were genetically altered to be the same relative size, which would win in an ultimate fight to the death showdown?

      5. If you could collaborate with any musician for a one-off christmas single who would it be and why?

      6. You are approached by the UK's eurovision committee, they've decided that the country's recent performance in the competition has been hampered by 'a lack of edge' so enlist you to wow the euro judges with what sounds like an upbeat cover of Cliff Richards' "Summer Holiday". For each eurovision performance they also require the band to dress like manowar in pink latex and appear onstage with a lilac Rover convertible driven by Susan Boyle in a bikini, in return they agree to give the band a bye in all preliminary rounds of the competition.

Do you risk the integrity of the band and compete for the prestigious title of eurovision champions of the world or tell them to stick the pink latex and rover convertible up Boyle's ample behind?

    • When is this starting up? Sounds like a great idea!

Do we get many offers to do interviews on here? I remember someone approached 9hz to do a chat with K2B last year.
    • PetePete
    • Soon...

Bands who'd be interested in doing this type of interview please pm me.

    • Did this ever get off the ground? As I said, more than happy to help co-ordinate.

9hz seems to be really slipping in terms of posts and new stuff etc. Anyone got any ideas for innovation?

      Some from me:
Weekly/Monthly quiz for heavy music geeks
Band or Album of the week
      Somewhere to upload photos proper
Competitions? Surely we can muster up some kind of prize up once a month?

I've been thinking the same thing. A few short years ago Ninehertz was pretty vibrant and buzzing...the all dayers were amazing and there was a lot going on generally in terms of regular updates and the forum was always on the go. It seems a little dead in the water now...shame.
