Been on a comic binge. Wanted by Mark Millar is awesome, there is no way in the world the film will touch half the subject matter. From reading a synopsis, they seem to have dropped about 90% of the main concept. Not surprised, though, I couldn't really imagine a Hollywood film in which the central character revels in indiscriminate rape and murder.
Also just re-read Watchmen and am part way through V For Vendetta.
Next up, The Boys by Garth Ennis. Then I want to get hold of some Authority stuff, but I don't know where to start on that.

The Authority, you want the Warren Ellis run... that's where it's at. If you haven't read Warren Ellis' "Transmetropolitan", I'd strongly recommend it.

I'm always on a continuous comics binge...

      Now reading:

Heart of Empire by Bryan Talbot (beautiful)
      Swamp Thing (Alan Moore run)

      Books:

The Makioka Sisters by Junichiro Tanizaki
      The Odyssey by Homer
    • Tom PTom P
    • Killing Pablo by Mark Bowden. It's good.

Cheers, man. Transmetropolitan is one I've had on my "to read" list for so long I'd nearly forgotten about it. Must do something about that.
Hasn't Garth Ennis done some Authority stuff too? Any good?

I tried Life of Pi but didn't get on with it right from the start. Found a copy in a bin, should've left it there.

    • It's spectacular, as much sparkling, light touch writing and love for the world (as well as awareness of its evils) as you might expect. Its also hilarious

I had the same experience with Life of Pi. Ditched it and I rarely do that with books, being stubborn and all.

People kept telling me it doesn't get good until about 100 pages in. How can it be a good book then? Surely the first pages are the most important to get right?

I dunno..... although the first few pages are what sucks you in, its really the ending that people take away with them so i would suggest the ending would have more priority... then again for a book to be good... it all needs to be good...... so yeah this could be classed as the most pointless post... but at least it was pointless from beginning to end

    • maybe it's because there are differences between a classic book, a good book, an enjoyable book and a book that's worth reading?

not read that particular book but i can think of a few i'm glad i read even though they weren't great from start to finish.

Maybe. Depends what you want to read the book for though, doesn't it? I've read plenty of books that may have involved a little struggle that seemed worth it for various reasons (subject matter, classic status, etc) but Life of Pi held nothing for me other than entertainment. And I wasn't entertained.

    • I've just started The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I had no idea what it was about, but picked it up at work today and it sounds ace so far, really interesting and easy to read.

      rubbish book.
soppy and predictable. I really hoped something horrible would happen to the lead character. little spaz.
spot the dog books are easy to read, doesnt mean theyre good.

    • I'd better point out that I wasn't referring to you as a little spaz, Rob.
That would be out of order , unfounded and inflammatory.

    • I've nearly finished it now and it is a bit predictable, yeh. Quite funny though, I thought.
