[Locked] Is there a July purchases thread???

    • I'm trying to get together enough scratch for a bond and credit checks etc. in order to move to a lovely little stone cottage I'm looking at renting. I need to magic up about £700 which I hope I can do without becoming a gigolo although that is looking like the more likely option right now.

As a result of this I have been buying essentials only.

On this note, I'm looking at claiming back some old bank charges, does anyone have any experience of this?

Last thing I knew, all banks charges cases were stayed pending a House of lords decision.

True, although there's word it might be lifted at the end of this week.

Used that moneysavingexpert site already, pretty useful, would recommend it. Just looking for a layman's explanation without the legalese, to get me started like because I'm a bit of a 'tard when it comes to understanding legal/financial thingamabobs

If you needed cash, why didn't you come to me? I'd be generous with the vig.

    • The first official ruling on the bank charges thing was that the application of charges was not unfair in itself. However, there has yet to be a ruling on what is a fair amount to charge in the various circumstances.
This has meant the banks have decided to stop refunding fees until further notice. If the final ruling is that you shouldn't be charged more than a fiver for going overdrawn, then they'll have to start refunding the difference.
At least, that's my understanding of it and I'm not prepared to read all 60 pages of the judgement to check.

That's my treat for the whole of August seeing as it's my birthday soon and I'm pretty broke. Need a new stereo though or I won't be able to play it. Might get a self-contained record deck off ebay.
