We recently recorded a cover version of Thin Lizzy's 'Cold Sweat' for a split 7" single that will be released through Volcom Entertainment's Vinyl Club. On the flip side will be the inscrutable Year Long Disaster covering our own 'Maiden, Mother & Crone' with Rob from Karma to Burn on drums!
It may get lost in the mail and someone will find it and think its a fresh sound, leading the finder to listen to more stoner rock bands and realise that in fact the sound has already been done before by many other bands much better. I guess thats a positive
It's not that bad, it's just kind of all on one level and sounds a bit like their heart's not totally into it, however it's not emo so maybe that's not the issue
saw them live once and they did nothing for me, but I was told that when they played Roadburn a few months later which we missed by an hour or so they were great
The first time I saw them (with Clutch just after Age of Winters came out) they weren't all that confident and the set was very disjointed with them playing a lot of the longer tracks (no Freya etc.)
But on their own tour (the one with Saviours + Black Cobra) they were utterly devastating. Definitely not a band for the big stage (as the Metallica tour proved), but they own clubs.
I can see where people's sentiments come from as regarding their originality/stoner credentials etc, but I think it's great that such a band can become popular in the mainstream. As a younger fan of the genre, I can fully appreciate that they are far from the peaks of the underground legends of doom/psyche/fuzz/metal(in general), but if they can reach out to the appeal of those kids who've never heard of Kyuss, Fu Manchu, COC, Sleep, and the rest, then they could open a lot of musical doors with their popularity.
Its calmed down a bit now so its a bit better, but when they first came out the hype exceeded how good the band are. They are indeed just as good as many other bands out there, no worse just they got hyped like they were something new, vital etc and I really don't see it.
If people love them, enjoy them then that's great, just seen a lot more interesting things going on with music while all their hype was going overboard. I'd like to see them live again sometime, Mamba was at the gig where I first saw them with Nebula, I just didnt see anything that made me get excited, they just stood on the spot and played riffs that didnt sound very captivating. I'll give them another chance if I get to see them again

I was and I agree. I've seen them twice since and thought pretty much the same. They're just alright.
I liked Age of Winters, but I thought they were average live both times I saw them (including Roadburn) and the second album is very poor. Went from an interesting blend of stoner and trad thrash to just dull retro thrash in one easy step. Meh.
