    • What have been your favourite gigs of the year?

Mine were probably the ninehertz alldayer at the Shakespeare, Kylesa at Corp, Gentlemans Pistols in Leeds, the Frequency 13 night at the Grapes, Metallica/The Sword in Manchester, Moloch/Thou in the Cremorne and Chickenhawk turning the shit venue WSL into a much better one by setting up on the dance floor, twice.

    • The Get Up Kids wins for me, cos I grinned like a loon the whole time, and everyone there seemed to be the same.

Zu deserve a mention too for being generally insane and genius.

Hellfest, particularly Wolves in the Throne Room, Electric Wizard, Torche, and Ufomammut,

The alldayer was tonnes of fun, Gojira at Corp were epic, Clutch ramming the little room at Corp was fekkin sweet, Kylesa and Dead in the Woods were cool at City, it's been a pretty good un personally.

    • Wow. I'll be here a while if I can remember them all!!

Gojira @ Stoke Sugarmill - was well worth the trip.
Cherry Choke/Domes of Silence/Trippy Wicked/Dusteroid @ The Underdog - was a great night out, plus I got pissed and made cool new friends!
ZZ Top @ Wembley - you can't buy that kind of awesomeness for less than £50.
Lamb of God @ Manchester Academy 1 - brutal.
Baroness @ Hare & Hounds, Birmingham - a spectacular band.
Judas Priest/Megadeth/Testament @ Manchester Apollo - faultless display from three of the all-time great metal bands.

      Plus many others!!

These were all great in their own way:

AC/DC - saw them twice this year, but the O2 show edges it. I had waited many years for that gig.

Roadsaw alldayer - so many good bands that day.

William Elliott Whitmore - in a house in Portsmouth. Crazy!

Ninehertz alldayer in Sheffield - fun times.

Them Crooked Vultures - Reading Festival - for the 'I was there' factor and the crazy excitement in the air.

The Atomic Bitchwax / Truckfighters - Camden Underworld - mostly for Truckfighters to be honest. They get better and better and loved them as a 3-piece.

Monster Magnet / Karma To Burn - I know it was only days ago but that was a great gig.

Good plan i was wondering how i was going to fathom out which were 2009 gigs.

The nottingham legs off the above, plus Clutch in the small room at corp, for starters. Good to see Alice In chains sunday night, and to finally see Pearl Jam after being a fan since the mid 90's.

Damnation - Charger and Electric Wizard in particular, plus EW at Manchester in May with Freezing Fog supporting.

Baroness & Red Stars Parade @ corp, in April

      Therapy? @ rescue rooms

Mastodon & winnebago Deal at corp.

That'd definitely be one, even with the equipment fuck up!

Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School of Medicine at Sheffield Academy - awesome, legend is overused in music but Jello is and the sight of grown men in their 40s jumping about in a good way was something to behold!

Mudhoney/The Heads - TJs, Leeds - finally seeing The Heads was pummeling full on psych rock of the highest order and Mudhoney were great too and put a lot of younger bands to shame.
