Been a while... lost my way.

    • Hey all, how goes? Been ages since I posted and contributed anything to the site... dropped out of intyweb land as I've been relentlessly studying, working, musicing, living etc... very busy, and to be honest I kind of lost my passion for the heavy somewhat. But I'm feeling it again now... good times!

Just kind of wondering what's new? Anything blowing people away? Kind of playing catch up, looking for something new and bludgeoning to wrap around my lugholes.

    • Shrinebuilder. I was anticipating loads, but must say I'm a little underwhelmed. Bit Ronseal, does what it says on the tin.... which is cool, but was expecting something to explode out of the speakers and kick me flat in the face with the wealth of talent in the band. Kind of ambles on predictively, could have been achieved with any of the bands these guys have affiliations. But hey, that's my asshole voicing it's two peneth.

Aye, I've thought a few times that I must've wrote that first riff myself before when jamming and scrapped it. Sounds too easy.

As for new heavy, not really much to add. Maybe Grimpen Mire? And if you don't already, listen to Mammatus.

    • The new Baroness album. Not ultra-heavy, but subtley brilliant. gets better with every listen.

It's part of the reason I lost interest. Dinosaurs re-hashing tried and tested ideas with nothing new coming through or getting a look in. Just turgid and bourgeois. We all give them to much respect.

The new Part Chimp album is a refreshing piece of punishment, however. I've been enjoying quite a lot of stuff on the Anticon lable, in particular Odd Nosdam.

    • Welcome back, Ad. You appear to have stolen the thunder of the Shrinebuilder review I just submitted. Damn.

    • Cheers Si. Great minds innit.... I'm guessing the review isn't too flattering then?

    • Not particularly, no. I was expecting a lynching by all and sundry until you posted this, so it's gratifying to know I'm not the only one who's been left cold by it.

    • Fuck it man, being lynched usually means you're right. We can mince the sacred cows together.

    • I like it, but I've only given it a few listens in a couple of weeks. It might be a grower, dunno.

    • The Part Chimp album is pretty cool. I would suggest the Alabaster Suns disc as that's pretty damn tasty.

Hey Tim. All good I hope? Yeah man, Suns is still going... just been a bit quiet. We're all studying for degrees, working and getting older so it's been hard to do so much - getting the hunger back now though. Got some new stuff, 4 more songs to record and should have a new album out in the New Year - more fast, structured and urgent compared to past stuff. Playing The Gaff in London on the 13th Nov, dont know where you're living these days - good to see you if you're about though.

Any way, less pimpage more linkage.

      Well worth checking:

I'm not bad been busy with my stuff you know how it goes. I'm doing a new record too which I think may shake off the twee folkie rep I have.
