    • Following on from Bad Admiral's godzilla like band bedpost, I found it quite interesting to hear what bands people were in. What's your history?

      Here's my fairly dull one:

      From 1993:

      Iconoclast (awful school band)
ENT (ear nose and throat) - awful school band
Scarred (half decent paradise lost clone)
      Among The Missing
      Savage Jackboot
      Pombagira
      Koresh
      Unnamed psyche jam band

ill Fitting Shoes- We were into at the drive in, fugazi, snapcase etc, didnt really sound much like it
Kamajor- Stoner rock/metal, fun band to be in, our cd is reviewed on here somewhere. Did some gigs with Grifter ages ago
Hedge Dweller- 3 piece, stoner rock stuff. pretty loose mix of sabbath, hendrix, blues type stuff

    • Rockthalash - shockingly bad school band...I didn't come up with the name

Thornchild - never gigged or did anything really

Revenant Host - pretty decent thrash band a bit like Sabbat meets Voivod, got loads of cool reviewes including Terrorizer mag and some label interest

Nero Circus - Stoner/grunge/metal - did pretty well, put out albums on Wild Rags records in the States and Godhead in Italy (home of Acrimony at the time). Got to play in Portugal and Belgium and tour the UK with Orange Goblin

Superjudge - stoner thing...never did anything

Madison - Shit awful rock band, lame as anything

Mississipi Queen - Classic Rock covers band, didn't last long

Rumblefish - lame funk rock band which morphed into...

Conrad - Pretty decent odd punk band influenced by Figazi and the cardiacs

      Grifter - current mob

    • i know you're gagging for details so...

bleech - first band. fucking terrible. was 13 and didn't know shit all about fuck all. sounded like a really shit year 9 nirvana tribute act. which is what we were. where i met beautiful golden richard (best friend that isn't ferdy).

kornish pasty - second band. troubled by arrests and drugs for some reason. was 14 and still a bellend.

flux capacitors - i was 15/16 and our biggest fucking fan. we had 2 basses as i had just heard of girls vs boys. we sounded awful and i ripped off loads of dave wyndorf lyrics, despite the fact i was an acne clad sexual novice, not a leather clad sexual deviant.

daslongshoredrifters - started off life under the name pennies for pushbikes. this was my second band with beautiful golden rich, who since the age of 13 had become a genius and we were actually pretty decent in an at the drive in on an average day kind of way. this actually lasted from age 17 at 6th form to 18 at uni. we won a battle of the bands too. sang songs about my imaginary drug habit, girlfriend and eating disorder. go me.

herr despair - solo electronica project. i called myself florian mcnab and was fucking crap

jazztastic sebtacular experience - post rock supergroup. songs were about 50 mins long which was unheard of for 2001.

dr dhooban and the syphilis bongs - still at school. was the vanity project of a local dealer and his friend, poo-gene.

depoprovera - kind of like radiohead. i played bass and rocked their world until i decided to leave after a massive tantrum and left them all in a bunch of shit. yeah!

i don't know - probably my most successful commercial venture. inexplicably. we were a 15 piece collective that veered from amon duul II to can to neu with a bit of stoner and a glam cover of the dr who song. played with british sea power at cambridge uni may ball.

65.29 kg of lesbo dick - i don't know side project. sounds like i don't know but with blastbeats in.

heartburn: thine enemy - still at uni. sounded like a really pants jon spencer with a set of decks (?).

it glows in the dark (dj baader meinhof vs dj ziggy heil) - not a proper band really but me and my mate racist fucking matthew the fucking racist djed at parties dropping exerpts from not the nine o clock news into ratm and playing a lot of definitive jux stuff. fuck me we kicked against those pricks. word to your mother.

commodore fairies - still at uni, this was a music unit project, really but we had lots of fun drinking cider and rehearsing our 6 songs. sounded kind of like pixies a bit. we were alright. good drummer.

kid euclid - left uni. we were ok, i suppose.

bad admiral - me playing my mate's upright bass and very little else, essentially. i do a bit of singing as well but i sound awful. beautiful golden richard plays fiddle.

ziggy stasidust - chechnyan eurovision entry basically. like "a really sloppy dead meadow" apparently.

i am tetsuo - emo. very serious. that is all.

tim's band - played with tim.

jahiz - noise in vein of whitehouse and consumer electronics. apparently have gone a bit "jazzy".

anubis dolomite - probably the greatest band ever.

      stone turner - psyche party

koresh - i run around acting a bit camp

      black saXX - get sexy

    • Ok here we go may take a while...

Electric disarra (was 12-14 shit electro thing i played keys and rapped... it was bad)

The annabel club (aka twist)- First proper band with guitars, was punk pop stuff and then when the singer got into blur britpop. I played bass with 2 strings to start with then by the end 5 strings. This was 15-18).

Was also in yak briefly before I got turfed out because the singer wanted his mrs in the band. Strawdogs with my mrs at the time left cause it seemed to be two girls just arguing the entire time. Also played bass for a christian rock band til i found out they where a christian rock band.

Novastar (AKA Cloudburst)- I moved to singer and my best mate kev from annabel moved to guitar from drums. Kev was a musical genius and we nearly got signed had it not been for the drunk fuck on vocals.

Shima- This was a beast and grew like a mad thing... what started out as a duo turned into a 8 piece prog band. We managed to get some how the princes trust to let us start a label and pay for our first 7" and then with that got two plays on radio one and many plays on a french radio station. We got reviewed in the NME for what it was worth... then it all fell apart when we left exeter for the bright lights of London moved into together and ended up hating each other. I played bass, guitar, flute, keys and assorted percussion. Its osunded like arkon family meets godspeed kinda stuff. Maybe tads of sunburnt hand of man.

During this time I also played bass for bachus a shit indie band who I was friends with and needed a bass player. The guitar player ended up stealing my long term girl friend off me so i stole his entire guitar set up and bought heaps of drugs with the proceeds.
I also played for a shit soft rock band called magik slippers again as a mates thing while they found a bassist. Took em a while like.
I played fill in bass for a band called semieon who where ace and wished they'd been more together people. As i enjoyed that band.

Soon the darkness- My first London band. A hardcore band with Ben from Narwhal etc. Was good fun and we achieve a lot tours and shows wise. Was also the first time I was comfortable being a front man.

During this three year period I was also in the perfect human example with pat ATM. It was kinda like men's recoervy project. We only did two shows I played keys at one guitar at the other... was lead by a mental american named freud. Pat may still have the recording of the demo.
I also played in sharnt Lind's first band... that was also with Mike from soon the darkness.
The host sepia and nimbus cloud - a duo of trip hop silliness. The two vinly records sounded ace... th live gigs where terrible in the most part.
Also in for a couple practise last exit for the lost dead inside minus paul and kaye. Never worked out sadly.

Among the missing- Probably how most of you know me. Joined as something like 3rd singer? When I was still in soon the darkness. Lasted 3 years before I left. was great fun played loads of shows did a few records... probably best band `i've ever been in.

Also during this time was in the burning hull (indie rock), fucking big monster (stoner rock) with linds went from bass to singer when the singer walked out. >transmitted> a duo some times trio improv stuff was silly may again be silly as we're going to do a show at christmas time hopefully as Tom's back from japan for christmas.

Naked shit- started as a joke, and contiued to be a joke... was started one christmas. Started with just me got linds involved, then hamish after our tour with iX. toured a few times, did demos, ep and an album on proper label... not bad for a bad joke one trick pony with two drummers.

TIm Holehouse- Now I'm solo been doing the folk stuff for 3 nearly 4 years now... some times play with a revolving door of musicians. Most of the time solo. Been round the world touring put out a load of records. Life's not too bad.

Timothy C Holehouse- split my guises up a while ago as certain material was moving away from the orginal aim of my solo material and people where moaning at me. Some time play with memebers of EMG and EDT.

Un named rock and roll band... starting in a few weeks myself and Joey attack! Vipers! are starting a rock and roll band... no aims for shows or records just fun time. idea at the moment is rocket from the crypt meet murder city devils.

      Thing thats my lot...

chicken wardance - very fast, short lived hc...
various others/short stints as drums for various
shotgun - sonic youthy type stuff with hopkins

bumsnogger -sludge metal giants - with hopkins
jesus of spazzareth - hardcore d-beat bastards..

    • vtiamin x - awful punk, but we all have to learn the ropes somewhere, and had great great times and made many friends that i still know to this day

shotgun - indie/punk as andy described, sort of sonic youth/cable/dinosaur jr/ash, but then we really got into emo and heavier stuff, did a status quo and changed name to

and the answer is no - drunken deftones/far/qotsa/helmet/quicksand worship

bumsnogger - the band of vagabongs, which you all know of. started as a laugh, finished on a high with lots of boxes ticked

cape canaveral - good mates needed a bassist, i really got into emo *sniff* so it was the logical thing to pick up the bass

got bored after 12 years of bands and packed it in, i've numerous offers to join jesus of spazzareth but they won't meet my terms

That's an impressive work rate by anyone's standards...well done TH

Mine (ps Im older than T so this is less impressive!):

TNT (aged 12, three mates at school in cut off denim jackets, played 3 Stray Cats song at school gig, supporting our school band who were made up like Kiss).

Hidden Instinct (aged 17ish) first proper band, we covered things like the Misfits, Dead Kennedys and the Cure. We did about 4 originals which were iffy. My brother on drums used to finish the songs about a third slower cos he'd started too fast.

Dougal (sorry) - band in college - our first gig was to 600 pissed students in Cardiff so we thought we were the shit. Next gig was about 10 people. Covered Dinosaur Jr and Faith No More! Slightly more originals, only slightly less bad than last band. We recorded an album in some mates Physics dept sound studio, which never saw the light of day!

The Square - joined up with a bunch of hippies on vocals in Stoke Newington, London to smoke a lot and play very odd Led Zep cross folk-psych stuff which surfaced only on one compilation I think.

Sheep - brief pop/punk project with mismatched members cobbled together via Loot but led to me forming Yeast with the drummer, Ed from Bosnia. Although we didnt always see eye to eye, we were very excited to try and make a band that was off kilter and heavy like Jawbox, Shudder to Think and Husker Du rolled into one.

Yeast played quite a few gigs (not as many as we'd have liked), with some FANTASTIC bands - one was when I first encountered the Holehouse. We released two albums, not many were bought.

Joined Hey Colossus as a founding member in 2003, just before Yeast imploded. Was a fascinating voyage into true songwriting, guided by lead composer, Bob. We made a horrific racket for years, sometimes at one gig. I left to dangle my toes in the sea in Worthing, and formed Tyre, which went flat, as members couldnt stick the pace of doing nothing, and so

      Gorse was born...

    • Big SiBig Si
    • Ha, how we like to talk about ourselves...

Sluzz Greep's Psychedelic Pyjamas - bass (school music room piss about, somehow covered a Cure song and the Ultimate Warrior's entrance music)
Jumbo Chutney - bass, vocals, percussion (semi-mythical summer holiday band/project/collective. Spent more time thinking up aliases and song titles than playing. Had a hoedown song about a girl called Carol, who lived in a barrel)
Pipebomb - bass & vocals (first meeting with Podge. Shit.)
Excelsum Superbum - vocals (stoner/doom tomfoolery with Podge on drums. Great fun.)
Ketsu San - bass & vocals (duff metalcore band me and Podge were in while we doing ES. The best bit was it meant still being in band with Podge's cousin, Gibben, which was always a joy)
Flatlands - bass & vocals (nuff said)
I've also been in Kraschenbern a few times, but that doesn't really count.
