    • yeah I had to laugh when the fucker burnt down his own shop hahaha!
      The irony is fantastic.

    • Surely it would have been more ironic if he'd minced himself?

Alec, how long have you got? If there's time, I may be able to source you a genuinely organic cockerel, fresh off the farm - but it won't be until late December.
Either that, or I can tell you where there's good poaching round South Lincs.

      God, I'm a yokel.

    • chatsworth farm shop. You can spend the day in the park and then pick up some nice meat. Best meat in the area although pricey!

or if you don't want to venture out my mother recently heard that this is very good - www.peakchoice.co.uk/

    • its on halloween, so ive got a week ish. castle market is a great idea...why didnt i think of that. i live in crookesmoor, there arent any local butchers around (at least in the immediate vicinity). i havent actually seen any since ive been in sheffield, but ive been living right in town most of the time, and being a student am obliged to be completely ignorant about the city i live in! :P
    • mikemike
    • I was until a few years ago, I wouldn't worry, I still haven't really been to Hillsborough or Crookes, but theres no real need.

we don't want you to visit either. sheffield if fucking huge, it would be easier to list the places you've been than not. Crookes has some of the best views of the city.

hillsborough has 2 very nice butchers, one was a champion sausage maker for a number of years and is called F Funk.
    • mikemike
    • I didn't mean that in a nasty way, just never had a reason to go, nobody I know lives in Crookes and you guys we always meet in town like. I'd never been to Norton, Woodseats or even bits of Heeley/Meersbrook til late last year, not that thats great or anything, I'd gladly never go to Woodseats ever again, its like my hometown, tucked over a hill away from the rest of Sheffield.

I can't think of a butchers in town though, town is completely weird anyway, 60s and 70s decay one minute, posh boutiques and modern shops the next.

    • true there are some grim bits but also some class areas.

there was a butcher down the bottom of the moor but i think that was part of the bit they knocked down to build the new castle markets.

actually there are 3 in hillsborough, all within maybe 50 yards of each other.

people don't really shop for meat in the centre of town so you'd be looking in more of the residential areas for some success.

    • Oh yeah for sure, theres duff areas all over but theres some amazing spots I keep spotting now, little bits of Sheffield I love, Frog Walk, the old Cemetary on Cemetary Road, the big fake lake next to the Dam House, The Botanical Gardens, the little cobbled area near the winter gardens, the victorian squares at the back of the cathedral, Graves Park, the view from the hill near woodseats and my house, sharrow vale road's big houses and the street piano (RIP), the streets between Wostenholme Road and Abbeydale Road are amazing too, as well as the Abbey Cinema too, fuck it theres loads good about this city, its just higgledy piggledy.

I don't, but I know a fair few people who do. Comes of working in Billingborough for nine months.

Alec, if you live in Crookesmoor, get up to Crookes. There are at least two butchers up there that will be far better than anything you'll find in Castle Market. It may be a market, but it's not renowned for its fresh produce.

My mates from Pointon, Meg and Horbling used to go bush-beating for hunts, but no poaching.
    • Big SiBig Si
    • Horbling Fen is where the action is.
    • noonenoone
    • I have lots of friends who attend fox hunts but not for the same reason as yours Mike.
