      Yup, everyone's born famous.

    • Battle of the bands are pointless though, thats a fact.
    • Tino InsanaTino Insana
    • £500 quid pointless, that's start up capital for a van!

Wouldn't do it myself like, but there's some money for being in a good band.

    • Thats not bad I suppose, but playing music competitively seems a bit weird to me, especially for a band like Hand of Grief, sludge competition?

    • MARCHING BANDS ARE COMPETITIVE, BUT YOU GET TO WIN MEDALS AND WEAR A COOL UNIFORM. TROPHYS RULE.

Nah, HoG ain't any kind of sludge. They're a lot more thrash and whatnot. I hear ya about the competitive aspect, but if you just think of it as a regular gig in your hometown in your regular drinking haunt, then it's still all golden.

Mind you, Berserkowitz absolutely bombed in the same place, heh. People were looking at us as if we'd just shat in their biscuit tin.

    • bah who cares if its a botb or not... its a gig!! that happens to be in our favourite boozer in our home town... is it suddenly uncool to play gigs?

    • Battlewitch are thinkiing of entering Battle of the Bands. I used to hate the idea of them..now I love the idea of them. I have seen far tooo many american teen films "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude..Battle of the bands 1000 bucks first prize".

    • Sonic Lord entered one years ago when they were a 3 piece... and lost to a bunch of 13 year olds with millionaire Dads who played Nickelback stylee music... People also looked at them like (and I quote) they had shat in their biscuit tins!!

    • Only way I like to see battle of the bands is when the bands are actually fighting. Mano war vs everybody else!
Music is not supposed to be comepetive its subjective... If I wanted to compete I would have stuck to playing football.
Anyway good luck with it and no playing gigs is not uncool (whatever that is) but battle of the bands are pointless. Hard work is what it takes to be a good band not winning some local battle of the bands... but anyway play the show get drunk have fun.

    • Back in my student days, there used to be a University run battle of the bands, and people were insanely competitive to the point of actually trying to fix the thing, and actively cheating in other ways. It reached its lowpoint when a mate of mine, who was working the door, was almost hospitalised by the friends of one of the bands, after he'd told them to stop pouring beer in the other bands' voting boxes. Turned out while he was arguing with them, one of them snuck round behind him and twatted him in the back of the head with a stool. All that, and the only prize was to play a set at the union summer ball, or something like that.

    • i think if it was a decent set up then i'd be tempted by the cash if if i needed it and i knew there was a realistic chance of winning, it it was just based on a show of hands (or who ever brought the most mates) then its pointless.

as for "a gig is a gig" that's a stupid thing to say. you should strive to play new places, not just the easiest to get to.

    • i once won a battle of the bands when i was 17 and in daslongshoredriftersandthetransglobalthundermonkeyconspiracy. we then came last in one a year later.

i think a bit of healthy competition is fine personally. keeps one on one's toes.

    • We (CC) played in one for Experian (our bassist worked there), about 20 bands entered. We won and got a nice cash prize, so I bought a guitar.

We treated it like a laugh and couldn't believe we won, the other finalists were gutted and nearly crying, some of them were slagging us off in the back room and hadn't realised we'd walked in and all went bright red. lol. Good job we're lovers and not fighters
