    • Ok. So, I noticed today that most of the new stuff i've been checking out recently has been as a result of either a review or a mention by someone on here. I've checked out The Hellacopters who i'd not bothered with before, Ghengis Tron, Cancer Bats, The Moving Sidewalks and Sun Kil Moon. All of which i rather like.
I stopped buying Terrorizer late last year and apart from occasionally picking up a copy of Uncut or some other tome most of my new music seems to be linked to 9hz. It's proving a pretty good source but i'd like to know where does everyone else find most of thier new tunage. New and/or new 'old' tunes.

    • I found Howling Rain due to your mention, I'd heard of them but I needed some idea of what to expect. Awesome. I usually do a bit of internet hunting on here, stoner rock.com and just wait for people to tell me about good stuff

    • i use ninehertz (obviously!), the "sludge or die" forum on forever doomed, my last.fm recommendations and my friends. i use myspace, last.fm and youtube to listen before purchase.

Yeah, they're very good. I checked them out after reading a review in Uncut. I think Magnificent Fiend will make it into my top 5 of this year.

I'm loving that new Hellacopters album. I checked it out after you mentioned the gig that's coming up. What else of theirs is good/similar?

    • From Hellacopters if you like that new album get High Visibility (amazing album!), Grace of god and Payin the dues. Then get the earlier stuff, it's more garage and noisy but ace also

    • Terrorizer, which has been my source for years now and a magazine I have defended for a while, has become less relevant to me (or gone downhill..?) over the last 6 months or so.

Gigs, ninehertz forums, myspace and stuff sent through for review for ninehertz are my main places.

    • Buy The Wire Magazine

For all things weird and wonderful

      touchign on all subjects

Jazz, Avant Garde, hip hop, modern classical, soul, punk, hardcore, metal, noise, Dance and everything i nbetween

Its actaully an insanely intelligent magazine and the music they cover is quite specialist and obscure not to much mainstream rubbish
    • bad admiralbad admiral
    • vice magazine and the nme obviously.

      i'm allergic to wire magazine.

    • To be honest I find out about new stuff from gigs mainly.

But also Myspace, marrauding through other people's CDs and the odd forum.

I don't like magazines, they are the devil's work. Well, music mags are anyway.

    • Was Terrorizer a lot, now Rock a Rolla, here, Doom Forever, C Board, Plan B, the Wire (just about). I don't buy any of the CDs though obviously
    • mikemike
    • Rock A Rolla and The Wire are great reads, the Wire is still full of stuff I will never hear though.

    • Oh and finding new music these days is this forum, collective forum, a big mediafire thread I raid now and again and just general obsessive reading of all types of website/forum/mags really.

    • I buy rock a rolla and the wire magazine wise and tend to flick through terrorizer, rock sound, skyscraper and plan b in borders.
I used to buy terrorizer religously but it doesn't cover enoungh stuff i'm interested in to make it worth a purchase anymore.
Online wise collective zine and doom forever doomed are pretty good for recomendations.
Also I use Leeds music forum which tends to atract a lot of perculiar characters and trad indie bands, but if you sort through the shit you can find out about loads of good really stuff I was missing out on otherwise.
Anything exist like this for Sheffield?

Other than that myspace, since it's started letting bands/labels pick their top friends i've found out about so,so much good stuff!

A couple of sites used by some indie promoters and bands, don't seem that active though (considering the number of indie bands around here) - Shefifeld Sounds being one - click on Gig Guide for an example of who uses it! The forum is a bit more active than that, although there's rarely anything of interest on it. Myspace seems to have replaced the need or desire to use them here I suspect.

Possibly some more I don't know about now I think about it.

By new music I take it to mean music you haven't heard before...I'm mostly on the lookout for old 70's stuff.

      Why's that then?

I've found loads of good bands through reading music mags.
