    • This is for things you would like to have on the site.

    • From theadore:

"As a desire... the new phpBB has a feature where if domebody else has posted a reply to a thread while you were typing you get to see theirs first beofre deciding to post your own reply.

its probably about the handiest new feature, but i'm not sure what it would take to do."

    • I'd just like to re-mention the 'mark all read' option. Hope it's in the pipeline as I used it often. :lips:

    • yes it's on the to do list. tho i don't think many people used it on the old site.

    • Is there a plan to add a past gigs archive as well...? would be good to link with the submit review section to make sure all the when/where info is matched & correct.
    • PodgePodge
    • tell you what would be nice to see back too. view all users posts. i often remember people saying something important on a subject say Mike remembering which venues are good, but cant remember where he said it, so i just pop along, bang is username in and up pops all the posts. helps me filter stuff out.

indeed... why couldn't I find that.

basically just that with a 'submit review for this gig' button.

if you couldn't find it, that's our problem, not yours. where would you have expected it to be?

    • I would have assumed under Live Dates... possibly just a link just under the "send us a live date" saying "previous ninehertz gigs" or something along those lines.

now that i've found it the current placement makes more sense tbh.. although in my original post i was meaning a list of all listed dates rather than just 9hz affiliated/hosted dates.

    • i can't really imagine a scenario where you'd look back through past live dates. it may be possible to archive them now we have more space, but i'm not sure how useful it would be... try me, though!

the ninehertz ones are only there to give new visitors a bit of a grasp on the promo stuff we've done.

these are backwards to me, i'd have put newest at the top

    • I think:

      Reviews should be seperate.
      Gigs should be seperate
News, bands, etc should be all in Music Discussion

I end up having to track though all three sections to find relevent threads, theres too much redundency.

    • We had a big meeting about what forums, and what they should be called, that lasted all night and got very (mock) heated over a lot of wine. Every one of us thought something different. Since we've gone live, it seems everyone else has a different opinion from everyone else on here too.

I (naturally) think we have hit the right balance. Before, we had 'General', 'Website Queries', 'Reviews and Interviews', 'New Members' and 'Bands and Gigs'.

We wanted to get away from the fact that people did not know whether to post discussion about music (eg 'favourite Black Sabbath album' or 'What amp do you use?';) in 'General' or 'Bands and Gigs'. Therefore we separated out General into 'General Chat' and 'Music Discussion', keeping 'Bands and Gigs' for self promotion. There was an argument to separate 'Gigs' on it's own, but on the rationale that a band posting about a new EP and tour would not know which to post in and therefore may post in two forums, we didn't.

We have got rid of the two quiet forums ('new members', and 'website queries';) and gained one more - we have had people say in threads both that there are now too few and too many forums.

The 'Review and Interviews and News' forum is the interactive forum with the main page and therefore all sits together, even if the news sits in there admittedly slightly uncomfortably, especially as on occasion we publish news on the main site which we have found out about elsewhere in the forums. This is something we will talk about.

Basically, I think everyone has a different opinion on the way the forums should be divided and named, all valid. We have gone for this one, and as yet (with the exception of the news items) I think they have flowed pretty well, but we will of course be keeping an eye on them.

    • I like the new headings for the forums. Only thing I would change would be to put General Chat at the top but that's so, minor as to not really matter much.
    • 90dayman90dayman
    • Oh, another minor one. Links in posts used to open in a new window/tab. I haven't changed my browser settings but now links load in place of the site and you loose 9hz.

Yes, that's deliberate. It's generally thought these days that it's best for links to open in same window/tab. Some users (not refering specifically to 9hz users, but internet users in general) are confused by links opening in new windows/tabs as it 'breaks' the back button for them and they can't find their way back to the original site.

Whereas users who are adept at using computers will know how to open them in new windows/tabs if they want to.

    • I still think we should open them in new windows - new users may go off the site following one of our links, then forget where they were and never come back. I did it myself...

quick fix... install firefox and get into the habit of using your middle mouse button to open links.
