      What about Pantera?

      Those solos!

      The lyrics!

      The cutting edge artwork!

      The vocals!

The whole COWBOYS FROM HELL!!1!! thing!

      The double kick sound!

      GUITARS!

Who do you hate more - Metallica or Pantera?

I'm with you on Pantera though. Balls. As is every band since who sound like them.

Hold on a minute, I seem to remember someone saying they were better than Slayer not so long ago. You were wrong, incidentally.

Pantera are fucking gash. Almost as gash as Pantera fanboys. I look forward to smirking and chortling at them all weekend at Bloodstock. Particularly the morons with Cowboys From Hell tattoos.

    • agree what Ben and Sam say about Load, there are some great tracks on there, but due to Metallica changing their direction many of their long time fans hate the stuff, and as a whole album it's just not good enough. S&M was a great collabration between two totally different styles of music, i reckon it worked quite well, but once again old metallica fans probably weren't best pleased.

I prefer pantera, i have always quite liked pantera for their music, Walk is still one of my favourite tracks, problem with pantera is that their fans take themselves too seriously and phil being phil doesn't help.

    • no offence intended but , as you have already admitted , you haven't listened to pre - black album Metallica , I think that disqualifies you from making any kind of comment about their music.
Although ' And justice..' is a passable album , they stopped being Metallica when they lost the main song writer and talented member of the band in a crash. With the exception of the time when Het torched himself onstage , it's all been dog shit since then.

    • So you're not allowed to like a band unless you've heard every single thing they have recorded? Sounds a bit fishy to me.

And sorry to piss on your parade but the vast majority of Metallica songs have been written by Hetfield & Ulrich alone, Cliff got credits on a few but it's always been those two doing the writing.

Basically I think it's time that people realised that, surprise surprise, not everyone thinks the same thing about anything, let alone music. Just because someone has a different opinion to you doesn't mean they can't enjoy whatever music they want.

i love master of puppets. quite like a scattering of metallica songs from all eras (not st. anger, though) but i think master of puppets is a damn near perfect package, start to finish.

It used to be my favourite falling asleep album... probably the only metallica album i'd buy again. (they were all stolen by nasty theives)

I never implied that at all.
In the case of Metallica , their strongest stuff by far was the pre Black album stuff.
You can't honestly tell me that the Black album wasnt the start of a completely diluted , accessible and MTV friendly Metallica era.
I thought your comment had a far more patronising tone than mine , I'm not laying down the law and I'm very interested in other peoples opinions on here . Theres no right or wrong opinions just informed ones and misinformed ones.
If you havent heard the large body of early Metallica work you're not really in
position to start putting their albums in order of greatness and many hundreds of thousands of people have reached this conclusion , not just me.
It's just a shame it wasnt Lars who died in that crash instead.

Maybe not that, but you did say this:

any comment? as for not being in a position to place albums in order, maybe i've missed it, but i can't see where he has done in this thread.

    • I stick by it all and deeply mistrust anybody who listens to post Justice era metallica and doesnt think its manure.
Thats the hard facts that some people cant handle.

Like is say Load has some great tracks on but because Metallica changed their direction most of their fans dislike the new direction so therefore thought it was shit - as you do. That happens to most bands that evolve during their career.
