   • I know Chris (Westicle) did this, anyone else considered or done it? I'm considering getting a huge drive, ripping it all and selling the cds. Would have more room and I rarely play them anymore but I'm still massively attached to them especially the artwork etc
     
     My plan would be then only buy vinyl to collect and everything else download.
     
     I think if I sold all of my cds I could basically buy a motorbike which is what I'd like to do

   • I can see where you're coming from and I've pretty much stopped buying CDs now but it's taken me so long to amass my collection and there's some stuff there that took me gaes to get hold of I don't think I could do it.

   • I hardly ever play cds either but don't think I could bring myself to sell them either. Pretty much everything I would ever want to listen to is ripped to my hard drive, but I still like the fact they are there if I want them.
     
     I am, however, considering boxing them up and persuading my folks to stick them in the loft. I've got no space in my flat.

   • It took me ages to find a lot of them too and Im like the idea of being able to flick through the books in years to come etc but I imagine they'll actualy just stay in boxes forever

      Most of the CDs I buy ARE second hand. It's one of the few ways to get old CD releases and get rare (i.e. the stuff we all listen to!) at affordable prices.
      
      This kinda links back to my Downloading thread. I'm still massively attached to my CD collection and would like to get a proper stereo so I can play them more often. In vinyl is your bag, the same applies.
      
      Of course it's easier to have an ipod and rip stuff (which I do!) But I still love my wall of CDs and flicking through the artwork, linear notes and CD designs every once in a while.

      It took me a about 7 days to do a 300 CDs on my old mac. I did a few hours every night. YAWN!!!
      
      I sold my CDs via music magpie and I got roughly £1 a CD. Not exactly profitable but if your order is over £100 they'll come and pick them up from you.

    • Sometimes I consider transferring to MP3s but if you don't get them backed up and your hard drive goes then all your music vanishes....
      
      I think I'll put my less-listened to CDs onto MP3 and then get rid of them, but there's no way I'm disposing of all my Sabbath stuff, or my painstakingly put together Skyclad collection.

      I never got into downloading music as I had a 56k connection until fairly recently, took half an hour to get one song. Even though we have broadband now I still can't be bothered.

      You are right,your dad was a wise man by saying that ,i have been buying records since i was 12ish, its part of who i am , then CD came i replace or my LPs etc, box up for space ,now itunes ,i love everything i have worked for,my son is already inspired my the amount of music we have in the house, CD and LP that have a story some i can not share with him until he is older, if you dont have room in your flat/home burn them ,BUT STORE them dont not sell,

      You are right,your dad was a wise man by saying that ,i have been buying records since i was 12ish, its part of who i am , then CD came i replace or my LPs etc, box up for space ,now itunes ,i love everything i have worked for,my son is already inspired my the amount of music we have in the house, CD and LP that have a story some i can not share with him until he is older, if you dont have room in your flat/home burn them ,BUT STORE them dont not sell,
      
      I agree with all of that. I used to love looking through my dad's old vinyl. Unfortunately most of it was shit, but I want my kids to be able to do the same with my cds/vinyl and they will probably think the same.
