Clutch: Some strong opinions

    • WickedWesticleWickedWesticle
    • New Album: Background Music. REALLY dissapointing. If I heard it in a lift I'd think "oh yeah, that works". I listen to it at work because it's bland enough to code to.

Live: Getting progressively worse (though I haven't seen them for a few years). They're getter slower, doing more boring jamming and looking less and less interested every time. Drum solos. WHAT T. FUCK? Are you serious? COC wiped the floor with them a while back.

From Elephant Riders to Robot Hive: Awesome to the max. Powerful, punchy, bluesy rockin good times. Several classic albums.

Impetus: Tomy™ My First Guitar Riff. Awful song. I don't get why people like it, it's so boooorrrrring.

Just about to give the new album it's 4th listen which prompted my rant. Anyone else with me on this?

    • I've been saying similar for a while now.

    • Are they still not great live? That was the most disapointing for me as they were so good early on.

    • I've not seen them for a couple of years but when they were in Sheff a couple of months back everyone said they were much much better

    • That gig at the Corp the other month was a belter, as is the new album, much better than the laid back Beale Street. However, i'm not old school, and only really got into them from Blast Tyrant onwards
    • mikemike
    • Not really liked much since Blast Tyrant, gone too blues and harmonica for me, they've kinda lost the hard edge they had.

      HOWEVER

Live they blew me away, seen them something like 6 times now, last time they were just unstoppable, hit after hit and then the new stuff sounded great too.

    • Exactly what I was thinking but was too scared to say.
Can't see the appeal back then or now.
      caca poo-poo.

    • Clutch are as close as I think I've ever come to having a "favourite" band. The last Sheffield gig was amazing. Having said that, it followed several lacklustre gigs over the previous few years and I've never clicked with Beale Street so haven't bought the new one. Still undecided after this thread.

    • The new tracks and those off Beale Street ruined what was an otherwise fine set at the recent Sheffield gig. For that reason, I'm out.

Although this is your opinion, it's my opinion that that's a pretty lame opinion. Albums like Pure Rock Fury are brilliant blues riffing melted together with almost poetic, funny, intelligent yet deeply rocking and intense vocals. How many other bands pull this off? You have to give them credit for at least working hard. However I thought they maybe hit a bit of 'cruise control' at Blast Tyrant, so haven't really bothered much since then.

    • They've lost me a bit with the last two too. I tried with Beale St but never really got into it. I've only listened to the latest one a few times. All seems a bit pedestrian now.

      Still love them live though.

    • i am going to say i really like the new album ,so its great to me.

What they both said... one of the most over rated bands ever. Sorry Pete and the fans of this band.

    • I can't really say whether they're going downhill or whatever, but I like 'em. I'm guessing we could have this same thread for every popular band though.

Pretty much agree with this although live they can be up and down. They kind of do the same thing every time, they should drop in some really old tracks sometimes

    • It just bugs me because when I got into them (Pure Rock Fury) they were amazing and they've just slowy got worse over time. It's such a dissapointment. That album has the right mix of riffs, raw production (the guitar sound is shit but it works), blues and song writing. I'd probably like the new record more if it wasn't so flat sounding.
