Heard this last night. Final member of pretty much my favourite band ever gone. Sad times. I hope he enjoys the big jam session in the sky. I was always glad to know that Mitch was still around bashing the drums in awesome jazz rock style and apparently he was playing in a Hendrix tribute band up until recently. He looked like a cool cat RIP
He's one of the greatest rock drummers (I say he's cos he'll always be around thanks to the records). Much underrated due to being overshadowed maybe by some guitar player he played with...
I'm now thinking for one of the gigs I put on next year I might now make it a bit of a Hendrix Experience tribute, so every band has to cover one song from the band in their set.
People do often overlook Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell because they were in a band with Hendrix and people often lose sight of the fact that the whole band was amazing and as much as Hendrix was an awesome guitarist he, along with the band created some amazing songs, some of the more mellow tunes are amongst the most beautiful I've heard.
Obviously Hendrix was amazing (possibly tooo good ooh controversial), but yeah something like Little Wing - how do you write tha...? PS Noel Redding had some monster basslines eg 51st Anniversary bside of Purple Haze
Apparently our Trebuchet practice tonight is dedicated to Mitch. Will is going to wear a headband and our drummer will be forced to set his drum kit up like how Mitch had it.
