    • Anyone else using this? I downloaded it last night as its now open to all UK residents and on first glance it seems pretty f*cking awesome!

It's an appliction that looks a bit like itunes and that you can search any music and stream it off the net. It's also completely legal as the tracks added have been added by record labels and the artists get paid as it's ad or subscription funded.

On the free version, apparently there are audio adverts every now and then, but I didn't get one in about half an hour of listening last night.

For the more obscure stuff, there's not that much on there at the moment but they are planning to get a lot of the independent labels on board, as well as most of the majors they already have.

      Go check it out.

    • I have been using it for a while, like you say not much in the way of underground stuff at the moment, but an excellent concept.

I just love the fact you can click on a song and it plays with practically no buffer time.

    • I've been using Deezer.com for quite a while. Similar sort of thig but all web based so no program needed and there's no audio ads. Great for that one tune you haven't got that someone wants to hear at a party. Again, it's not great for underground stuff but I'm constantly amazed by some of the stuff that is on there.

Oh yeah, and it searches youtube for videos at the same time as looking for tunes. Neat. ;)

Will check it out. Just listening to new Rise Against on Spotify on your suggestion. Its great for being able to stuff like that.

    • Yeah, that's cool. Check out: Siren Song of The Counter Culture and Revolutions Per Minute. They're the best 2 Rise Against Albums in my opinion.

They're on Deezer if you can't find 'em. ;)

    • Will do. I own a couple of albums somewhere. Can't remember what they're called though.

Just checked out Deezer. Also pretty cool, although seems a bit slower and not quite as good quality. Also seems to cut off the end of songs. Definitely a good alternative though, particularly at work where they're not too keen on you installing stuff.

    • Another good thing about Spotify is that it scrobbles straight to last.fm, if you like that sort of thing.

    • Just checking out some live Cave In i've not heard on Spotify. The program's pretty quick like you say. Nice one. Time will tell. If I go back to it over the next few weeks i'll probably keep it.

    • Selection does seem a little better on Deezer.

So they both have their pros and cons! ;)

    • Just checking it out now. It's pretty goddam good at a first glance.

    • I was wary, as I am of anything new and technological, but this is awesome. Signed up to give new Mastodon a go, but it's not there. So I'm listening to Mia Riddle's album, I can see this getting addictive - brilliant for try-before-you-buy people like me.

    • I'm thinking it might be the end of buying. Though you have to have t'ineternet connection obviously.

    • I've had a quick play with the desktop version and it doesn't seem to work as well as Last.FM although it's better for playing entire albums rather than random tracks that people think sound like the artist you want to listen to.

I'm holding out for the iPhone application and seeing whether that is any more reliable than the Last.FM one.
    • WickedWesticleWickedWesticle
    • I find last.fm a little bit annoying in that it's harder to play a whole album
