as good as moss / bong are. you seem to be looking at two completely different ranges of bands when you are also talking of wizard and goblin.

Is that directed at me, or the topics responses in general?

They're all heavy. Some cost more to book but we're just dreaming when we say something like OG or Wizard, it's never gonna happen purely based on the fiscal requirements needed to book them. I think that is Podge's drift.

Aye, wasn't my drift at all though. I never claimed that was what I was going to do, or even attempt to do. I'm looking for a good baqnd that can play Shakespeare in Sheffield, not Download or Roadburn.

That is god damn ridiculous!?! How on earth would anyone break-even from putting Orange Goblin on in the type of venues they play and the apathy of gig going crowds at times!

A band I would love to see in Sheffield, as I've never seent them here, is Orange Goblin.

Seen Orange Goblin twice in Sheff:

2000 at University Students Union with Goatsnake & Sunn O))) - great gig, the snake were awesome
2001 with Nebula at the old Corp

They're playing Vintage Rockbar in Doncaster in November, as well as these other dates:

      27 Sep 2008 Leicester Square
10 Oct 2008 The Old Angel, Nottingham
      11 Oct 2008 Fibbers, York
12 Oct 2008 Ivory Blacks, Glasgow
      13 Oct 2008 Studio 24, Edinburgh
31 Oct 2008 The Joiners, Southampton
1 Nov 2008 The Freebutt ,Brighton
      15 Nov 2008 Vintage Rockbar,Doncaster
      29 Nov 2008 Sawyers, Kettering
6 Dec 2008 Hard Rock Hell Festival,Prestatyn, North Wales
    • PodgePodge
    • my drift was that the bands being listed here are the ones that will bring in no more than the usual Sheff crowd (bong / redstars) or ones that you cant afford (goblin / wizard)

as for goblin, that rider / fee is most likely the one off show / festival one. their tour one will probably be smaller. you have to remember they play things like download and hellfest.
    • EggyEggy
    • Podge says:

apparently they don't want to tour.

Jus did an interview when the last album came out saying he didn't like touring but would maybe do a few one off dates. they have done chuff all for the release of this new album, surely that would be prime time?

That alway happens when i really get to like a band, EW were amazing when i saw them in manchester i was really looking forward to seeing them again sometime.

That's ok then, i'm going to a wedding on the 20th, and the saturday before i've really like to see Calexico.

I have the 19th off work in prep for the wedding, what time do gigs finish at the grapes? - if late i may try and get the thursday off too. Work have started being anal towards people starting after midnight.
    • PodgePodge
    • from an interveiw with Jus on stoner rock.com

John: Do you have any other touring plans for 2008?

Jus: No definite plans. I don`t really enjoy playing concerts. I don`t enjoy going on the road. It`s just... shitty.

John: I heard you get treated better in Europe.

Jus: Well yeah. It`s all different everywhere. There are certain places where you get treated really well, like Japan, Greece, and Sweden. And there are some places that are just shitty no matter what. Like touring Germany. That`s shit.
    • EggyEggy
    • Suppose it's better to do a few dates and get treated really well than do a whole tour and mainly get treated poorly and spend most of the time itching to get home. Depends on the venues and the people who run them i guess.

Aye, I understand what you're saying man. But my point was that if you read back over my posts on this thread, I never said that I was interested in band such as EW or OG. I know full well that they're out of my range and never pretended they were. The original band I had lined up for the slot were perfect for it and only wanted petrol money. That's what I need, not providing a helicopter and faberge eggs for a band or whatever else.
    • PodgePodge
    • i'm not having a go at you, more the baffoons who are clearly suggesting wrong bands
    • EggyEggy
    • I can't really think of any that fit that exact group, stand up guy were perhaps my best suggestion - or the february solution who played here not long ago, but i was elsewhere. Electric Wizard are a band i love and have seen just the once, obviously if they were to play sheff they would probably only fit at the corp, but it seems there intentions have shot that anyway.

Paradise Lost have been shit both times i've seen them and clearly don't play places like sheffield anyway. ISOR aren't big enough, but as a band who have finally just released their second album, i would like to see them again.
    • Tom PTom P
    • Its ludicrous. Where are all the sludge bands who'll play just for the craic? Sheffield should be awash with nasty bastards peddling the heavy but its all fancy-ass indie bollocks with tinny tone and too much delay.

Don't mean to be harsh on people who like that stuff but that's the way it is.
