this sounds like beefheart if they'd not been playing in their own key/time/planet, jam-based 70s weirdness.

      These guys sound pretty good.

If you didn't already know Jack, there's a downloadable live improvisation by Diagonal available here. If the link doesn't work you can get to it via their website. Sounds good.

      late night transmissions...

it sounds a bit too close to sublime. but the best bits of sublime...

you're on a bit of a ska tip at the moment?

Yeah, I don't like Ska though. I prefer to think of it as rock or punk with reggae influences. ;)
I really like Jaya the Cat. First 2 albums are better than More Late Night Transmissions I reckon. Though it's still really good.
If you (or anyone else) have any reccomendationd for similar stuff, i'm on the hunt for more at the moment.

    • when you say you don't like ska - all ska or just ska-punk type stuff? because if you like the dualers i'd say you definitely do like ska!

in which case i recommend the slackers, hepcat, skavoovie and the epitones, skinnerbox, chris murray, dave hillyard and the rocksteady 7...

this guy has a youtube page with some excellent videos.

and if you've got itunes, the pressure drop soundcast is worth a listen, nice mix of new releases and older stuff.

    • Yeah, it's just the often silly tromboney punk stuff i'm not keen on. Older 'proper' ska I like. Thanks for the reccomendations, i'll check some of 'em out.
