    • As I seem to have found myself in two bands all of a sudden, I need to start thinking about buying some kit. As I have use of most of a kit at both places I practice I think the most sensible place to start would be with cymbals, as the ones I used last night were terrible.

I know very little, and don't really have a budget in mind. I just want to spend as little as is possible to get some 'reasonable' cymbals. Is it worth buying a pack or is better to mix and match? Is it worth looking at second-hand? Any suggestions welcome.

    • I need to start getting some cymbals together. I bought a cowbell first. I think you should do the same.

    • If you don't hit them really hard then get a pack to start with, something like the Zildjian ZBTs or ZXTs. That should give you a full range of cymbals for a reasonable price that sound ok.

If you do play really hard then they will eventually crack, if not they should last.

What sticks are you using? I moved from 2Bs to 5Bs and held back a bit and stopped breaking cymbals.

    • Stagg higher end range are pretty cheap still but durable. Ziljan you do pay for the name I'm told by my drummer. He gets his off e-bay and says you can pick some nice stuff up second hand.

    • gumtree. second hand cracked cymbals sound fucking amazing and are cheap as chips. you can probably get a bag chucked in as well.

i don't really see the point in paying out for stuff you're just going to twat the fuck out of.

do get a gong though and one of those insane upside down ones.

    • Stone Turner existed by Rich using cymbals off gumtree and Aaron from Ten Ton Tabbys cast offs pretty much:D

I've never bought the same things twice, there is such a huge range its always difficult. just set a budget and go try a few out.
