Their first recordings took place in 1971, these songs were to be released as the ”Death Of A Country” album, but for some reason Capitol didn´t want to release it... it´s been a long wait but now it´s finally released (for full info on all the hard times the members of BANG been thru with the recordcompany and their management, check out the BANGstory and the article by Perry M. Grayson on their website)...

The title track on the ”Death Of A Country” album is a 10 minute long sonic odyssey that truly rocks with lots of twists and turns... and the other tracks are also of the highest caliber. If there ever were an album deserving a better destiny, this is the one, it´s up there with Captain Beyond´s first album, Buffalo´s Volcanic Rock ... and, yeah, Bang´s selftitled album, among others... I guess there have been bootlegs in circulation of ”Death Of A Country” as well, 'cause I´ve heard this album mentioned as a classic long before the official release in '99... so if you wanna make sure that your hard earned money ends up in the right pockets, you´ll order these albums directly from the band...

The selftitled album is one of my all-time favorite heavy rock album... as soon as the heavy ass guitar riffs of ”Lions, Christians” makes my speakers rumble, I´m floored. And then I barely have time to catch my breath when I´m hit by the awesome power of ”The Queen”... this is music made to be played at highest possible volume... if your amp goes to eleven... crank it up ;)

Except for the occasional more laidback song this album churns out heavy butt-kickin´ bluesbased rock from beginning to end...

The ”Mother”/”Bow To The King” album feels like it´s more laidback at first... but that´s just the first impression... there´s a lot of explosive moments on this one... ”Mother” starts with almost a countryrock feel... and then it shifts gear and sound towards the more heavy BANG stuff. The same goes for a lot of the songs on this album... if you just listen to the beginning of each song, there wouldn´t be much heavy stuff... but if you listen thru all of it, there´s plenty... The favorite song on this album must be ”Idealist/Realist”, lots of cool guitars on this one... Shaft s t y l e wah-wah riffs, slide and heavy ass overdrive...

”Music” might not be as good as the earlier albums, but it comes very close... ”Windfair” starts out the album with it´s slightly Grand Funkish vibe... together with ”Mother”/”Bow To The King” this is the album that shows up most musical diversity... but even in a ”soft” ballad like ”Glad Your Home” there´s some heavy elements...

Squeezed in between ”Music” and ”Death Of A Country” on the CD are the three ”lost singles”, ”Slow Down”, ”Feels Nice” and ”Make Me Pretty”, the first two are heavy rockers of the finest quality and ”Make Me Pretty” is more of a laidback ballad kinda song...

After all they been through thanks to their recordcompany and management, the members of BANG have now started playing together again... The new album ”RTZ: Return To Zero” was released in November last year. Most of the songs on this album sound very different compared to BANG´s earlier recordings, but I guess that´s only natural... after all this time... The RTZ album is a little AOR sounding, but there´s a couple of glimpses of the old BANG in tracks like RTZ... and I sure would like to catch the resurrected BANG live on stage, since I wasn´t there for their first round... I mean any band that can blow Sabbath of the stage (according to the rumours), can´t loose all that ”live on stage” energy just because it´s been a while ;)
