      Love you XXX

Tom uses a slightly temperamental Roost head with a Gordon Smith. i think he's changed the pickups since the recording for knuckledusters or bare knuckles or something like that and he uses a different set of pedals every week.

first is called first as its the first proper one that we wrote without really carrying anything over from the last band (Cobra Reynolds) we just thought it fit there in the tracklisting best.

funnily enough, though i love playing Stockholm, i find it by far the easiest to play and the most basic in structure so your "the most diverse and creative tune on offer" surprises me but i aint complaining. if you had said it about Happy Ending, i would have agreed (i love that track).

i'll bang this on myspace if everyone is cool.

    • oh and our plan is to not really ever record anything like an album or play anything over about 25 minutes.

short sets and a new EP / Split / 7" every 6 months would suit us just perfect. were not overly interested in epic stuff, leave that to the doom and post rock people

I had a feeling that might be why First is called First...but it's more fun to assume you're being difficult. I think Stockholm just sounds the most different because the music seems to twist a bit more from the mellow intro to that bit where it sounds like your snare has really pissed you off. Great track though Happy Ending is my favourite, that bit where you hit those big assed stabs...I nearly had to change my bedsheets after that!!!:D

    • ollie many thanks that is ace
it sounds like it does through a long process of throwing out riffs and sections that either just dont feel right or sound to thin.

now we gota go through it all again....... so be about 12 months at our work rate.

    • I need to get a CD.
I listen to your myspace tunes most nights when I get in.
It's better than I could ever have imagined.
      I'm quite imaginative sometimes.
I had Stockholm as my profile tune for a while but I'm back to Sundown Park again. I only realized recently that we drive past Sundown Adventure Park at least once a week on the dog rescue run. What a sinister place.

      Rachmanite demo review
Rachmanite manage to make a lot of noise, considering the band consists of only two people.

Tom (guitar) and Podge (drums) had both long been deeply involved in the Sheffield heavy music scene in various ways, when they decided to start playing together two and a half years ago. Many hours of practising and several amp problems later they played their second show ever at the Nineherz Alldayer at the Underworld in London this summer.

Together with bands such as The Mirimar Disaster and Flatlands they are creating a Sheffield-sound, the way At the Gates and In Flames created the Gothenburg sound back in the day. A sound which all bands share without sounding anything like each other, a sound that is far from the Arctic Monkeys or Bring Me The Horizon.

Their debut demo consists of 4 powerful tracks, full of doom-heavy riffs, smoky melodies and repetitive bravery. For a newbie like me a first listen to the demo can make it seem dull, monotonous and grey but soon the different shades of grey shine through, and how they shine.

It is a brave debut, it is intelligent, different and moody but nowhere near the emo-moodiness you get a lot of these days. Going from black to white and back to another type of grey they remind me of my worst PMS mood swings, only darker. And they manage to pull it off in one flow, sweeping me off my feet as they do it.

It is a demo full of emotion, the drums manage to stir up a storm just to seconds later create an almost calming beat, sending me into a kind of trance, a dream world underwater bubble outside which a battle is being fought.

Starting off slow and heavy at times, like in beautiful Stockholm, and ending in a firework of rage and riffs, as they do throughout, they do have similarities to bands such as Cult of Luna but have somehow managed to create their own mysterious sound.

Happy Ending is a song with some of the heaviest riffs and a lot of potential, although personally I think that a vocalist could have helped this particular track. But it is hard to put Rachmanite’s music into words, and as Tom reveals, this is part of why so far they have no vocals.

A two and a half year long struggle has ended in a brilliant demo, now we can only wait and see what the next release from the newest addition to the Sheffield scene will bring.

Rachmanite’s demo is available for listening and downloading at www.myspace.com/rachmanite

If you like the Sheffield sound check out:

Other duos currently doing well are Deathfromabove1979 and Swedish Johnossi.

not sure about being compared to CoL but a few people have said its got a post rock feel about it (despite being significantly shorter than that scene). plus its not exactly taken 2 and a half years, there was another band in there during that time but a nice review all the same.
