    • it really is like facebook mkII only more complicated. i only use myspace thesedays for listening to new bands, and that's not very often. i've not changed my profile for years either as it's just too much effort thesedays.

    • YouTube is the place to be.

There was a survey last year that showed YouTube is the preferred place to check out a new bands by a long way.

There are also rumours YouTube are gonna roll out events and then display location based results as well so they're probably gonna move even more into music.

    • That I could deal with. It's going to be difficult for a site to come along and kill myspace completely as it was really the first one doing that sort of thing, and 5+ years ago it was great, but it hasn't really moved with the times.

Facebook should really have something better in places for bands by now. But even so, there are still plenty of facebook-haters out there so a site which people can visit without feeling like they have to sign up to the 'community' aspect would be much better.

Someone told me the other day that 'real websites' are making a comeback.

That's what we're doing but Lee from the sleeping shaman is jazzing it up and making it look like our own site as opposed to the wordpress template.

Did your mum do the the Below the Fall page then? ;)

    • who then, your nana?

the downside with youtube, so far, is searching for small bands who have common names that throw up loads of non band videos.

Aye, and also don't you need access to video uploading gear? I'm a bit of a luddite and all our stuff on Youtube was stuck up there by someone else.

You need a camera and a computer. I was gonna say you may need Windows Media Encoder to compress the files but it looks they're releasing this to replace it: www.microsoft.com/expression/products/Encoder4_Overview.aspx

It will most likely have an 'export for youtube' or similar function.
