We are a 4-piece instrumental rock band based in Sheffield, consisting of Sam Ainger on drums, David Ivall and Danny Mills on guitar, and Joe Richards on bass. The band is named after a trail in Alaska - a route recommended for best experiencing the Northern Lights. Our music has a post-rock edge, with a mix of influences including Sigur Rós, Oceansize, Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut, This Will Destroy You, Pink Floyd and Buckethead.
We recorded our first EP - “Circle of Least Confusion” - at 2Fly Studios in Sheffield in October 2011. This led to repeated airplay on BBC Radio Sheffield, and our featuring in Exposed Magazine’s In Session section, with a 2-page spread in the magazine and a live session recorded and filmed for their website. We have been building up our gigging experience in the city, including a slot at Tramlines festival in August 2012.
In January 2013, our first full-length album was released, entitled "Sailing Stones". Again recorded at 2Fly Studios, this record expands on the themes and groundwork laid by the first EP, whilst furthering our sonic reach. It has been nominated for Best Album by Sheffield Scenester, alongside a Best EP nomination for "Circle of Least Confusion".
The Music by TCH is subjected in morality, hope, despair, space, place and awareness within the world and immense universe. With textural soundscapes and vast crescendos the main focus of many of the pieces signatures. Movements and pieces rise and fall using variation of instrumentation and emotions.
TCH (AKA Timothy C Holehouse) is the work of Tim Holehouse (also a performer of blues material) This is a more diverse set pieces and currently for the most part instrumental pieces using varied instrumentation and sound sources. This consists of several elements, with these elements in isolation or sometimes combined to depending on the feel of the piece.
TCH (acoustic)
Instrumental (occasional sing and poetry) pieces of music composed. Stripped down to acoustic instrumentation pieces based in folk, blues and jazz.
The project started under the name Timothy C Holehouse was formed after it was decided that his song writing styles where moving in two very different directions. The first is a more standard blues song writer using voice and guitar. The other uses, affected guitar and sound sources to create pieces, rather than more traditional songs.
Two albums have been released on UK label Dead Pilot records the first being To the howls at midnight a very minimal sparse set of compositions recorded in seclusion in the middle of Dorset one New year’s eve. After the success of this it was decided that a follow up record would be created with a larger more band feel to it. With the help of good friend Robert Hobson and Rick Blakelock on drums (A forest of stars and Electric Mud generator). The second record In search of the binary star was created. Using elements of Neo folk, drone, soundscapes and field recordings it was forged over a cold January in Leeds.
During this time Timothy C Holehouse also set about recording some noise based material away from the guitar which featured in a one a month tape cassette series with different artist from across the world. Around this time during a tour in the UK and Japan he also made collaborations with various artists such as Japan’s Veee deee. He has also 2011 made collaboration with Indiana’s Squirmm Orchestra.
The change of name to TCH harks to the fact the material has become more and more sparse and vocals now have pretty much been omitted from the work. Used only as textures or spoken short pieces.
A third album is shortly to follow the first after leaving Dead Pilot records and features Blakelock again on drums as well as his two band mates from A forest of stars and Electric Mud Generator. Jonerator and Duncan Evans. The four pieces as well as a track for a split picture disc with Slabdragger (Holy roar records) where recorded over a month period and move in an even more epic direction than “in search of the binary star”.
TCH has toured the world along with his blues material is on the road most of the time. Travelling the planet and playing his work to many different types of people. Including tours in the US with USAISAMONSTER and around Europe with New Zealand’s Gerda Blank.
Two split records of new material have also been release both on 12” Vinyl has recently been released on his own Dislocation Deity records imprint. With Left hand cuts off the right and Vaelium collective (of which TCH is a part time member and appears on their side of the record too). Also a split records both on 7” with slabdragger from Croydon (holy roar records) on picture disc and Gerda Blank from New Zealand (now based in Czech Republic) on coloured vinyl.
