Wreck and Reference?

    • Hi all, I've been a lurking on this site for years now, but I've finally had a reason to actually get involved.

Has anyone heard of Wreck and Reference? About a year ago they released their debut album called 'Black Cassette', which was a weird, highly original mix of electronics and doom.

Anyway, they've just released the follow up called 'No Youth', and as far as I can tell, they've invented a new genre... It's seriously dark stuff, and I didn't particularly like it the first time I heard it - but after a few plays I'm a total convert. If you like highly experimental doom metal, with black metal flourishes, noisy textures, and tortured vocals - I think you'll like it. (Imagine if Ufomammut, NIN and Burzum's hideous love child went through a teenage kraut rock phase).

It's definitely a sit-down-with-headphones-and-concentrate listen, don't put it on whilst you and your missus are having dinner...
