I'm thinking about doing the St Albans half marathon in June. That gives me about 14 weeks to get up to 13 miles.....from 0. Well I ran 2.5 a couple of weeks back but that was the first run in 6 months.
Anyone done any marathons/half marathon? How much training did you do?
My sister does half marathons (I don't race any more, so my 'regimes' would not be helpful) and she's over this weekend, so I'll try to remember to ask her.
I think she usually starts training 12 weeks beforehand.
There is a good book called the Competitive runners handbook which I've heard is quite helpful. I've got a copy but haven't read it:
The words "12 weeks" has filled me with optimism. I'm all for pushing things as hard as I can but I've damaged myself through this a couple of times recently and I didn't know if 14 weeks was a realistic target.
