Fuses for amps

    • Does anyone know much about them?

Dicky's amp died this week and the fuse lights are on.

Are they expensive? easy to get hold of?

    • easy to get, go to maplins or any electrical repair shop. Turn the amp off, screw the cap off and remove the fuse, should have the type written on it. They are usually glass fuses.

    • oo also if the fuses went it could be worth getting the amp checked over to check the pre amp valves are all ok. Put the new fuses in, see how its running, sounding etc, if they blow again etc. May be fine. If not I know a good dude for fixing valve amps in London.

There's usually some reason why they have blown, but could just have been a power surge or something

    • Cool thanks.

      Is it that guy Alex?

    • it is indeed, hes rather good at amp making/fixing. If its just a valve then they can be fitted pretty easily at home, can often just look and see that ones not glowing properly, then order a replacement. Just careful if running it with the case off, high high high voltage!

    • I'd probably leave any of that stuff to someone who know what they're doing.

I'd be too tempted to do something silly like see how long I can keep my tongue on a valve after turning the amp on.

    • give the fuse a go first, hopefully its just that thats died. Theres usually couple of fuses

    • stick an old nail in there and buy a fire extinguisher
