BW_50 MAMMOTH WEEKEND
www.last.fm/event/670897 join it!

British Wildlife proudly presents Mammoth Weekend. Set in the Small but charming Packhorse. Mammoth Weekend is a 'best of British Wildlife' festival celebrating the 50 British Wildlife gigs of times ago with all the favourites times past featuring alongside some newer beauties. Joining forces on Saturday will be Lonely Hearts bands & DJs at the Library for some extra special mind blowing extremity.

Line up thus Far

Fri 3 The Packhorse Hosted by British Wildlife
TANGAROA
Insanely technical yet rocking Leeds boys! Throwing elements of Buckethead right through to the Dillinger Escape Plan into a big melting pot. Expect faces to turn into puddles and be swept up at the end of the evening! Seriously heavy and technically mind-blowing! Plus their new album is out real soon, so hopefully we'll see some new tunes too!

COWTOWN
www.myspace.com/cowtownsuperstars
The use of 80s Casio keyboards invariably guarantees a certain degree of ‘kookiness’ but it’s pleasing that Leeds three-piece COWTOWN are considerably more than twee existentialists. You’ve heard countless derivative bands denying that they fit, quite deservedly into the “shit Oasis type band” or the “wank nu-metal” or even possibly the “crap post-rock by numbers” category but COWTOWN are genuinely on a plain of their own. Of course this is all academic if it sounds like a tool shed during an earthquake but COWTOWN are enviously cohesive. Sometimes grungy, frequently noodley, and sometimes, as you’d imagine slightly kooky but always loud as hell they’re a compelling blend. At present it seems that ‘LS6’ (that’s a postcode) is producing one of the most important independent music scenes; somewhere where new freethinking possibilities are embraced rather than feared. COWTOWN are one such fine example of this." (MUSIC DASH)

SHIELD YOUR EYEShttp://www.myspace.com/leavethetapesrunning

MUCKY SAILORhttp://www.myspace.com/muckysailor
The unlikely and perhaps unfortunate musical partnership of a 56-year old man and his 13-year old son. A complete nightmare on paper and only marginally better in the flesh. Nevertheless, an endearing example of music therapy for dysfunctional families almost working out.

CHICKENHAWKhttp://www.myspace.com/chickenhawk
"There's a lot of bands around these days playing riff-heavy instrumental music, but few of the best of 'em can come close to imitating Chickenhawk's Melvins-influenced brew of experimental time-changes, played with super-charged energy, inspiring a good old human pyramid to be formed at the front by the audience."

Sat 4 The Library Hosted By Lonely Hearts

ART OF BURNING WATERhttp://www.myspace.com/aobw
Super tight and technical hardcore riffery all the way from the 'big-smoke'. As far as hardcore goes in the UK, these guys (who have been on a breather for too long) put 90% to shame. They blend riffs from obvious influences like Converge and Mastadon, but with lesser known giants like Noxagt and Ed Gein. Shredding and twisting and turning your mind inside out, but in an absolutely, positively amazing way. Their first split release with Foe and American Heritage set the bar for what was to follow, their debut album on Super-Fi Records (with the longest and most ridiculous title ever) THE VOYAGE OF THE PESSIMISTIC PHILOSOPH: AN ODE TO THE BELIEVERS OF THE PREVAILING LAW OF SOD. Now on the brink of their second album - HEAD OF THE TEMPEST soon to be released on the mighty Rise Above Records (Electric Wizard, Orange Goblin, Sleep!), these guys will not be ignored. Hail the return of AOBW! www.artofburningwater.co.uk

RED STARS PARADEhttp://www.myspace.com/redstarsparade
You need something heavy yet ethereal, crushing notes lighter than the fetid air. You need long songs
that soothe and shred in equal measure, a singer's voice piercing yet beautiful in its desire to soar
higher and higher... because this is music that is all about capturing one dark moment.
You need Red Stars Parade." (Rock Sound)

OMERTAhttp://www.myspace.com/omertarock
Omerta are back, and with a new singer too! Having been out of action for the past 6 months, you may have seen them previous supporting the likes of Converge, Rise & Fall, Hot Cross and November Coming Fire. As you may have guessed then - brutal hardcore punk with huge riffage and the odd beatdown (you love it';).

PULLED APART BY HORSEShttp://www.myspace.com/pulledapartbyhorses
Could be a sick torture method or the name of a new rock consortium from Leeds of west riding. PABH consist of Ex-members of musical rock type bands Mother Vulpine, Concentration Champ & It Takes Bridges. This combination has provided each member with a satisfyingly large need for volume, movement, guitar disturbing and ear drum punishment whilst and underlying value for popular song writing remains still ever so slightly true. Influences remain scarce but from the outlook of the set up of this 4-piece it could be suggested that you’ll be in for a disco rock hammering with a large dose of hard riffing and yelping vocalities.

BLACKLISTERS www.myspace.com/blacklisters
Leeds' true dark horses that make the most of honest but monstrous riffs akin Shellac & The Jesus Lizard. Blacklisters have been knocking around Leeds for a few years now honing their craft so that their music has gradually become harder and harder to listen to.
After a slight "hiatus" they've returned having written a new set of killer tunes and undergone some minor plastic surgery. Their chunky rhythm section perfectly balanced against a range of minimal to soaring guitar parts and a vocalist who looked (and sang) like he's just shot up. Quite unlike anything you've heard, the glitchy sounds and tribal beats run through the room and kick you in the face.

CHOPShttp://www.myspace.com/mightychops
CHOPS is the play-work of creators, issued from a real necessity, produced for ourselves. Every sound must explode in the combined profound gravity of the new, the eternal, the crushing joke and fanciful impulse of our enthusiasm for the principles upon which we act and deliver. An incoherent flutter of Buzzard wing and a meaningful paté of duck egg bagatelle, undeterminedly committed to the composing of and disposing of instantaneous unique plagiarism. We are not precious, sentimental, nor dwelling. We are a spurious, furious hors d'oeuvre of golden-lined dream-clouds and vitamin-rich pith, preparing for the great spectacle that is and will be Inevitable Disaster.

Sat 4 The Packhorse Hosted by British Wildlife

CLECKHUDDERSFAXhttp://www.myspace.com/cleckhuddersfax
Currently, the band that EVERYONE is chicken about:
"Saw some God loving band called CLECKHUDDERSFAX at Harrods re-opening night. Both the opening and the band were shambolic in every way, which I think the organisers actually encourage in a vain attempt to appear anarchic and well, 'Knightsbridge'. Most of their set sounded like Ottowan's take outs (look, Ottowan have one friend and weirdly, or perhaps not so not weirdly, no cool beverages) and their singer was rude to my boss and had the cheek to do it while wearing a stupid orange Prada vest thing.

STRANGER SON OF WBhttp://www.myspace.com/strangersonofwb
As fervent believers in music as progressive art form The Stranger Son of WB formed after doom post-rockers The Sonar Yen and equally dark post-punk combo Thee Virus House went imploded. Bassist Chris Haslam was already having musical problems with the Yen and he and Gareth got together in a flat in Chorlton over a love of classic avant-garde like Captain Beefheart, The Fall, Sonic Youth, Can, The Velvet Underground and various other “interesting developing bands”. Soon The Sonar Yen was history and Tim Horrocks swapped his drumkit for a knackered, old Hofner guitar and come on board. Paddy of space-rock set Sundowner soon moved in barely after The Stranger Son of WB had set foot on a stage. With shrewd social observation and satire. They cut like a sharpened Bowie knife but one can’t help but appreciate the mordant humour of “wanky bands with plastic scarves/pull your finger out/cut their fingers off”, “attack your neighbours they earn more than you” and “put out your flags the queen’s coming!” Furthermore, unlike many of their punk predecessors, there’s a positive undercurrent.

YOU JUDAS www.myspace.com/youjudas

MILLS & BOONhttp://www.myspace.com/deadmeatboutique
Mills and Boon are a spaz folk 4-piece from Birmingham. They meat every Thursday and Sunday for meat. Especially on Sunday. The next recording will be meat to be released on British Wildlife Records. The last recording was Jesus, which was put out by Bearos Records. you can purchase it with meat.

RAMPANT RABBIThttp://www.myspace.com/rampantrabbitsafe
Welcome aboard the doom-laden funkadelic showboat. Consisting of Luke James Webb, Henry John Myers & Adam Patrick Nodwell, three resident stiggers from the south of England ready to add their DNA into the bloodline of champions. If you havn't seem Rampant Rabbit yet it may be hard to explain, alas an extremely horrible jangling bass duet for the most part fronting monolithic rampaging drums that hit harder than Cheryl Tweedy

SOLUS LOCUS www.myspace.com/soluslocus

Sun 5 The Packhorse Hosted by British Wildlife

HEY COLOSSUShttp://www.myspace.com/heycolossus
With a mission of creating “subterranean rumblings of sludgy rock using three guitars” rarely has a band been more appropriately-named than HEY COLOSSUS. Comprising of former members of STANTON, I’M BEING GOOD and YEAST along with a current member of ECONOLINE, HEY COLOSSUS has concocted an utterly crushing sound based on he inspiration of the MELVINS, BLACK FLAG and BLACK SABBATH, and other influences including bands like CAN, BEEFHEART, ISIS and NEUROSIS into what sounds like a truckload of distortion pedals falling down a cliff onto a mountain of anvils, just to see how much noise it’ll make.

BILGE PUMP www.myspace.com/bilgepump

MONSTER KILLED BY LASER www.myspace.com/monsterkilledbylaser

DETHSCALATORhttp://www.myspace.com/dethscalator
DETHSCALATOR are from Stoke Newington in London and formed in the deep winter of 2007 after Stu, Matthew and Ben were kicked out of the cast of Cats the musical. After months of scouring personal ads Ben came across Dan's profile. His interest in Black Sabbath and ZZ Top piqued his interest, not to mention his hot, hot physique. Dan joined the band from his previous band Hunting Lodge as singer and Percy soon followed, possibly tempted by greed, because everyone knows noise-rock bands make lots and lots of cash.
Fast forward six months and DETHSCALATOR are renowned throughout London masters of tempo. They have songs ranging from 88 bpm all the way up to 93 bpm. This has landed them on bills with the likes of Whitehouse, Pissed Jeans, Acid Mothers Temple and Clockcleaner. Comparisons with the likes of early Sabbath or Electric Wizard are not quite correct. DETHSCALATOR deliver heavy dinosaur balls but with the spastic inflection of bands like Scratch Acid, Butthole Surfers or US Maple. You should definitely go to their concerts and buy ALL their merchandise.

CASTROVALVAhttp://www.myspace.com/castrovalvamusic
Formed in 2007 as a noise project that was intended for no ones ears other than the creators. In 2008, it changed to a much different band. No longer a glitch based noise duo, the pair have now switched to a much more straightforward Drums/Bass approach. Described as “Filthy Prog Noise” by many and have been known to improvise entire sets.

HANK HAINThttp://www.myspace.com/hankhaint
The One Man Band, Rampant Rabbit Drums man plays heavy'ol sing along riffs & harmonica through distorted reverbed telephone whilst stompin on a bass drum & hi hat.

PIFCOhttp://www.myspace.com/pifco1

THE EXPLOITS OF ELAINE www.myspace.com/theexploitsofelaine
Chameleonic improvising collective from Leeds, Nottingham and London, at one moment sounding anywhere from No Neck Blues Band to Battles, the next from Stars of the Lid to GYBE. Includes members of The Good Anna, Enten/Eller, The Amber Sleep and others.
