"Naisian at Corporation – Sheffield
I always find support bands intriguing for the simple fact that for every ten instantly forgettable support acts, there will be one which displays something special, and without doubt Naisian were one of these bands, utterly eclipsing the second support band Chickenhawk (who were disappointingly generic and seemed to rip of Sepultura’s classic Roots Bloody Roots). The performance itself was fantastic and despite a few tech problems with amp settings and pedal boards, the band was tight and the music was of a calibre you would expect of a much more established band. Indeed it was clear that the members of this four piece are highly talented individuals.
The music itself is incredibly moody and emotive, ranging from mellow, spacey sections of pure prog to ear busting, yet creative and imaginative metal. It’s awesome to see metal bands attempting to break the mould and move away from the generic metal blue-print created by bands such as Metallica and Machine Head, no disrespect intended of course, but for metal to survive it must evolve, and bands such as Naisian are part of that evolution, continuing what bands such as Isis and Neurosis started. This review would be horribly incomplete if it did not mention Naisian’s demo EP. The work and money that has gone into this CD is evidence of the hard work and dedication the band has made. The CD itself is made to look like an old vinyl record, which in itself is an interesting quirk, backed up by awesome artwork by Miriam Dobson. Although during the live performance I thought the band would benefit from including perhaps more vocal work, having listened to this awesome demo it’s clear that Naisian have the mix spot on, with an excellent mix of simply brutal vocals that would make Scott Kelly blush, technically brilliant instrumental sections and awesome samples. By all means track down this band and lose yourself in their music. 8/10For Fans of – Neurosis, Isis, Cult of LunaWritten by Scotty Hurst""
"Finally some fresh local talent crosses my path! Sheffield based Back To The Sea mince no words and waste no time hitting straight into their own unique blend of crushing atmospheric slow Death Metal, casting a dark mood by utilizing explicitly raw vocal qualities with their deep grinding and also progressively doomy sound. Effective technical ability mixed with sledgehammer like guitar blows creat a full on audio assault of unrelenting cacophony, a sprinkling of brutality and a dash of atmospheric ambience and there you have it, "Transcendancy Of Loss", a brutal and enlightening opening demo from the multi-talented Back To The Sea."
This is my brothers band. Stupidly good for their age. They sound somewhere inbetween At The Gates and Meshuggah. This is their first show since supporting Evile.
