I can't remember being this impressed with a new band for a long time. Manchester's Pine Barrens are totally unique, bristling with energy and ideas.
Blasting their way into your life with opening gambit 'Kingmaker' their influences could be one of a dozen things, black metal creeps in there, the guitar tone and vocals suggest it, but then comes more hardcore leanings, think the more metallic european bands like The Endless Blockade or Trainwreck.
The same continues for next track 'Product', lyrics being thrown up by vocalist Thom like his throat is being ripped apart, seeming to paint a bleak picture of consumerism and alienation, not reinventing the wheel with these themes, but who cares when the music is this raging?
Its just the originality and delivery of this which has me so impressed, almost giving me faith that there are people out there willing to create something new, not to copy others or be content to keep quiet.
They should be playing gigs near you around now, go and see them.
