    • Ok I'm looking at a new guitar finally... looks like I'm heading for a martin... so far I think best thing i have played is a martin D28. Unfortunatley its £2000 (once I get the pick up and extras...) so any other recomendation guitar people? I like the deep mahogany sound of the Martin D28... so I'm looking at something good for blues/folk in an open tuning with heaps of sustain. Any other suggestions?

    • I have a rather nice Norman folk acoustic I picked up around 11 years ago 2nd hand for £150. Walnut back, spruce top handmade in Canada. It's a very sweet guitar, I've not changed the strings since I got it and it still rings out nicely and stays bang in tune. I think the company had some connection with Simon and Patrick and Seagull. It may be worth having a look round to see what's out there from this company. It's smaller than jumbo size, hence the folk bit bit it has a good deep body for resonance.

I recently got a Martin and it's lovely. It's one of these - my guitar. The picture there doesn't do it justice, the wood and overall finish is beautiful. It's quite a narrow body though which makes it very easy to play but you lose a bit of bass. It's got quite a raw sound to it and I really like that. This obviously changes when you plug in. When I compared it to a full dreadnaut (spelling?) sized Martin I found the bass on that a bit overwelming. I also tried out a couple from their Road series which are very nice but again slightly smaller bodies so you'll get a bit less bass.

    • Cheers guys... Ollie sounds like a steal my friend. Grand I'm gonna investigate more about Martins I think... yeah i like the big boomy bass sound and I think Pick up wise heading for a fishman.
But more investigation needed I think... just scaring the crap outta me £2000 for a guitar.

    • I got a Fairclough which is amazing for £300, plus they're closer to £200 now so it's even better. Mahogany back and sides and (I think) spruce top. Give on a try.
