It's just brilliant, I love the extra instrumentation that kicks in at the end of the track. I hope Om decide to travel this route more often. I’d love to see their songs fleshed out a bit in a similar fashion because this sounds excellent. I think Emil’s drumming (he of Grails) is potentially more interesting than what Haikus was doing. Roll on the new album.
In a fit of excitement I almost dropped $50 on ebay on the 7”… it gets dull at work what, so these things are eminently appealing. Luckily the common sense kicked in and I managed to resist the shiny buy it now button.
I agree, they do need to start expanding their sound. Hence my excitement at ‘version’… the dynamics of extra instruments makes a big difference. I know that Al, in the past has sworn off extra instruments in favour of the stripped down drums + Bass only approach. Lets hope that goes out of the window for the next album. I always thought a bit of layering could beef up their sound no end.
Om are one of those weird bands I have a love/hate relationship with. Seeing them live at Supersonic 2007 really blew me away, as did ‘Conference of Birds’. It’s all about ‘At Giza’, they have yet to come anywhere near to equalling that track.
I expect the 7” tracks will show up on CD at some point anyway. Where did you snag your copy cause I’d like to get hold of one. It’s already rare as hen’s teeth!
