   • I'm not sure if this is true, but I did once hear that for the first two Nirvana gigs with Dave Grohl, he had o use Chad Channing's (old drummer) kit. He was hammering it so hard that two people had to sit with their backs to hold it together.

     Bonham was exclusively a Ludwig man as far as I know. Never known him play Rogers, although they are good drums. Fella could tack an extra hundred on for those kind of stories though I guess

    • I used to listen to a lot of that era's 'Grunge' bands. Mainly Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Bush, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden.
      Putting aside any validity of genre tagging etc I'd certainly say the Grunge movement had a big influence on my listening habits. I'd still defend or promote the listening to of most of the 'big' bands from that era though thinking about it there's probably only AIC that I still listen to on a regular basis.
      
      There always seems to be a dichotomy with 'alternative' music and popularity and I think the Grunge genre (among others) highlights this. Nirvana more than any band. Their popular stuff isn't generally considered good by the 'real' alternative music fans whilst the stuff that is considered good by these same fans, isn't popular.
      
      I think Jeff Bebe sums it up best really:
      
      "Show me any guy who ever said he didn't want to be popular, and I'll show you a scared guy. I've studied the entire history of music. Most of the time, the best stuff is the popular stuff. It's much safer to say popularity sucks, because that allows you to forgive yourself if you suck."
