Karma To Burn Crobar, London, 15/06/2009

Well, this was a last-minute gig scheduled after the Download weekend (at which they also played) and before their headline gig at the Underworld the next night. Seems a bit like overkill, but this is the Crobar we're talking about, and overkill suits very nicely indeed in this setting. The thing is, the clock ticks down to 9pm and there's STILL only a scattering of people in the venue... On a normal night, the average punter here would consider themselves a connoisseur of riffs.

It turns out to be most certainly their loss not to be in attendance.

Karma To Burn do not give a fuck. Not that they have to prove it by doing stupid or dangerous stuff (use of the notorious Crobar toilets does count). No, they just like to play. The crowd like to listen. One song in, there are smiles all round. No, to be fair there are GRINS all round.

Karma To Burn in full effect in any venue are pretty impressive. The gig the following night may have attracted more people to a much larger venue, but the band didn't let you know about it at all tonight. Much appreciated by the chosen few...

If you ever have to recommend this relatively obscure band to anyone, just say this: they don't have a vocalist because they don't NEED a vocalist. What other band with only three members can you say that about?

    • Weird the Crobar has always been mentally packed on the admittedly few occasions I have been there. Once after Will Haven, I tried to chat to the clearly unimpressed Grady Avenell, he has the most inappropriately whiny voice, Will Haven trivia fans.

    • Still only have one album which I loved for a while, then forgot all about them. Might track down sme other stuff.
